My name is Michelle, my husband John, and Frenchie Leo live in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. John is a mechanical engineer for Borg Warner and works on turbo charging projects, as well as working with IndyCar! I am an administrative assistant for an HVAC company.

I grew up with Boxers and have had a Boxer in my life since I was 5. I can remember each of them as if they were still with me! Boxers are a wonderful breed and I will always remain true to them, however, there was something about the little Frenchie that always had my interest and I knew one day that I would hopefully have at least one!

Leo came to us by chance, or fate, if you will. In June 2013, I just happened to drive by our local AG center and noticed the sign advertising the Asheville AKC Club was having a show that weekend (this was on a Thursday). I convinced my husband to take me, so that we could see the Frenchies and the Boxers. By this point, we had decided we were ready to add a little member to our family and I had been searching for a rescue and applying for a rescue time after time with no luck. I was beginning to become frustrated to say the least. When we arrived at the AG Center bright and early (8am) on Sunday morning to see the Frenchies in the ring, we were graciously approached by a very busy and haggard breeder, Yana & Milan Miklos. We had been admiring the dogs they were showing. They were so warm and friendly and very chatty considering how overwhelmed they were. We appreciated them taking the time to stop and talk with us between showings (one of the pups they were showing was Leema, which happens to be Leo’s daughter), I was taken with her the first time I saw her, little did I know!

Anyway, 4 months later, at the Petit LeMans Race in October (in Atlanta), I just happened to check out the breeders website (I had not looked at their website in almost 2 months), and there was Leo! He was available for adoption as a retired stud! I wasted no time in emailing Yana (thank goodness for 3G), and thankfully, she emailed me back fairly soon and said he was still available. That Sunday after the race, we traveled from Atlanta, 4 hours away, to Crossville, TN to meet the Miklos’ once again and meet Leo…. Needless to say, he went home with us that night! Poor little guy was a nervous wreck the entire 4 hours back to NC.

We couldn’t be happier, and we know who to look to for our next Frenchie, which will hopefully be soon! Leo is such a joy and we love him to pieces! We look forward to many years with this little funny gentleman!

Great story! I was excited to hear how you Leo came into your lives. I always felt bad when you were disappointed about the ones i rescue that you didn't get. Leo was meant to be part of your family!

Aweeeeeee. I knew Leo was very handsome the moment I saw his PIC. I looked for months for an older dog from a breeder. I wanted a pup they kept hoping it would become something it didn't or someone they retired. I couldn't even get most people to write me back. I work from home and my husband is retired so we're here 24/7 with a fenced yard and huge piece of property. I figured we were the perfect home for a retiree. lol You're a lucky girl Michelle because Leo is perfect (I'm pied partial) and I know how difficult they are to find. Sounds like Leo is a lucky boy too. Enjoy your lil' man!!

Great story - I love hearing about how people came to know French Bulldogs and get their first! I too was looking for a retired showdog, and I had a few opportunities, but each one had temperament issues that I just felt like would make it difficult for this frenchie to be able to come with me everywhere, and socialize with the dogs of my friends and family. How amazing that it worked out, and I am so happy you got such a wonderful dog! He's beautiful - esp with his snazzy bow tie!
