Asher likes to be around his humans. He is happiest just hanging out near his foster family. He loves to go on short walks when the weather permits and enjoys lounging around the house watching his people go about their day. Asher enjoys sitting right next to you while you watch the evening news or a game of Jeopardy and rub his belly. He also loves to chew on his Nylabones.

Asher does have a bite history, he is a fear biter. When he first arrived in foster care, he was very *very* scared to be in a new environment, around people he did not know at all. He takes approx a week or so to get to know you and trust you. After this time, and he feels he is safe, he is a great dog. He is fine being picked up, but doesn't like you to pick him up and snuggle him. He would rather just sit by you and snuggle that way. He has not tried to bite anyone while in his foster home, but he does get nervous around new people and situations. Due to his bite history with young children who provoked him, Asher will not be placed with any families with children younger than 16 or where young children visit.

The perfect home for Asher is one that is very calm and laid-back with no other pets. While Asher likes other submissive dogs, he will be best placed in a home with no other dogs. Asher benefits from confident leadership and rules with positive reinforcement. A first time Frenchie owner would be fine for Asher as long as they have previous dog experience. Asher is completely house trained and crate trained. He is not a huge fan of being left alone in his crate and will bark for the first few minutes he is crated. For this reason, Asher should not live in an apartment where neighbors might hear him barking. Asher would love a home with a nice fenced yard to roam in and a stay at home person to spend his days with. If his new family does work, he would need a dog walker to give him a mid day potty break. Since Asher gets nervous around new people, he would not be a good dog to bring with you to the office.

Asher knows Come, Sit, Down, and Stay and "backup". Backup is used for when his foster mom goes through the door and she wants some space to go through first. He listens very well. Additional obedience training may be beneficial for him to help him socialize and become more confident in strange environments.
