Selina was tearfully surrendered by her family due to Selina’s severe separation anxiety. This poor girl will move mountains to be with humans and sometimes, those mountains are window blinds and the occasional lamp shade. Hey, they got in her way, so she dealt with them accordingly.

Selina is very easy going and kind of a loafer when her humans are home with her. She loves to just be with her people. Her foster mom has never seen Selina play with a toy. She just wants to be by people and hang out or lay beside them. She isn’t a huge fan of being picked up but loves to sit by you and just be loved and petted. She’s super sweet with people. Did we mention she just loves to be loved?

Selina requires a stable home with a strong leader who is willing to continue to work with her on her insecurity and severe separation anxiety. Someone who either works from home or can take her to work with them and when they leave the house as much as possible would fit her needs. She does need to be the only dog with no other pets in the household. If she goes to work with her human, she must be kept separate from any other dogs that might be in the office.

Selina has crate hate and will hurt herself trying to get out of a crate or kennel. She can easily hop over a baby gate and has apparently been taking mountain climbing lessons as her foster mom has witnessed this little girl climbing over a 4 foot chain link fence. She won’t try to escape if her human is outside with her, but she can never be left outside unattended. And she'll need a fence higher than 4 feet.

We believe Selina has been in several different homes and this may have fed her anxiety issues a bit. Someone who is willing to allow Selina the time to learn to trust is key. Someone firm and consistent will help her blossom into a more stable little girl. Patience and commitment are crucial for Selina. This pretty girl has a hard time gaining weight and this is likely also due to the anxiety she lives with.

Selina is currently on Prozac to help with her separation anxiety and her foster mom thinks this might be helping a bit. However, her separation anxiety will likely be a lifelong issue so she does require someone committed to her for the rest of her life and accepting of the fact that while she may improve, she will always have a level of anxiety. With a family who can work with her, spend a ton of time with her, rarely leave her alone and continue working with her, she may improve over time.
