*** Stevie has a bite history. ***

The adorable brindle Stevie has made his way over to the available page! This guy was pulled out of a shelter by FBRN after his owner surrendered him because he bit a toddler. It was reported that the small child attempted to take a bone or a toy away from Stevie and was bitten. The severity of the bite was not known. He also nipped a foster mom on the foot and scraped the skin, but no medical attention was needed.

Despite his bite history, Stevie has a clean bill of health! This boy is crate trained, house broken, and does great on a leash! Stevie is reported to be one smart little man. This is the scary kind of smart, where it wouldn’t surprise you if you came home to see Stevie using your computer or mowing the grass for you! He is very active and would do well with a forever home that was active as well. Stevie would love to flex his mental muscles at an obedience class or trick class.

Stevie is a no for cats and children. However, he has been around other dogs and seems to like to play with the puppy in his foster home. Stevie needs to have slow intros for as long as it will take to get him acquainted with the other dogs. Stevie would not make a good office dog due to his bite history. Twice when he first arrived at his second foster home he charged the crate door--but foster mom gave him firm correction and taught Stevie that the crate was a magical cookie-box, and there are no problems with crating now.

If you have experience training a very smart dog with a mind of his own, please describe your experience in the application. We don't want to place Stevie in a home with people who are well-intentioned but inexperienced, because we want Stevie to live in his new home forever.

Stevie would do well in any kind of dwelling--house, apartment, RV. The thing Stevie needs the most is a firm leader to set rules and boundaries for him and doesn’t allow Stevie to get away with bad behavior. His forever home needs to make sure that Stevie gets lots of activity and allows him to get all of his energy out. The one thing Stevie does love is being around his people! He likes to chew on antlers and play fetch, but should be supervised with rubber toys or stuffies as he loves to tear them apart, and nobody wants to go through a foreign body surgery!
