Chief was surrendered because he became a bit fractious in his old age and didn't get along with the other dog in his home. He is deaf. He got very sick when he was a puppy, and the antibiotics he needed to make him well also made him deaf. He was a well-loved dog.

Chief is a performer! He may be 8 years old, but he is very active and loves to go for multiple walks and chase the ball all over the yard. He knows sign language and some commands. He is also housebroken. In his first home, he lived with a kitty, so we will say "yes" to homes with a cat.

Chief tends to guard his people so he will do best as an only pet. We'd really like to find a home for him with people who have experience with special needs dogs, though not necessarily a former Frenchie owner. It would be wonderful to continue his sign language training. Because he is deaf, we require that he be placed in a home with a fenced yard, and not allowed off leash in unfenced areas. Chief tends to bark when he is left alone, so a detached house would be better for him than an apartment. He would love a stay at home person, but would do fine with a mid-day break from a dog walker.

Due to his deafness, Chief is easily startled. He should not be left alone with young children as he may act aggressively if he is suddenly woken or surprised. He will do best with a family who will throw the ball for him over and over again, and will work on his guarding behaviors.

His foster family has really enjoyed working with Chief! "Chief is a wonderful dog! He loves his owners and will give you endless kisses. He is very loyal and adorable. Chief is not a snorer and would be happy to sleep at night with you under the covers. Chief is deaf but knows simple commands like sit, down, and jump using hand signals. Anyone with a little patience could teach him many more commands. He does bark when left alone."

Chief is chasing his ball around the yard in sunny Florida. He will not be shipped.
