Mordecai is available for adoption! This 18-month-old frog was surrendered to FBRN after a backyard breeder shutdown, and is reported to be the most hilarious dog his family has ever fostered. Mordecai is very bowlegged and sleeps with his legs straight up in the air! Not only is Mordecai crate trained, but he adores his crate and hangs out in there for fun. This silly boy is also doing well on hs potty training, and he adores his squeaker ball and chews. Another perk about Mordecai is that he doesn't bark!

Mordecai has a luxating patella and also has KCS (Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca or dry eye), which means he needs eye drops. These cost around $35 a bottle. It is terribly important that his forever family administer these eye drops to him twice daily because otherwise Mordecai could go blind. There is a possibility that Mordecai could develop kidney problems in the future, as that can sometimes happen to dogs with KCS, which often stems from immune deficiency. Adopters should be prepared and financially able to deal with that prospect, in addition to committing to the eye drops. Prescription drops are necessary because human grade eye drops do not address the totality of the problem of dry eye. Please don't apply for Mordecai if you are not committed to following his treatment plan exactly. We say this because we have had dogs come into our care whose owners substituted inexpensive drops for prescription drops. The outcome was blindness.

Mordecai adores everyone he meets, and he does great with other dogs. His foster family is working on leash walking. He loves hanging out at home so much that he gets stubborn about walking away, but he sure has no problem walking back! Because of his bowlegged gait, Mordecai needs to live in a single story home or a home without stairs that he can access. As mentioned earlier, Mordecai loves every dog he meets, but because he is orthopedically-challenged, he would do best in a home without a rowdy dog who could knock him down. Mordecai also loves kids, and a dog-savvy child who knows a dog's boundaries would be fine for him. Because of his bowlegged stature, Mordecai should not be allowed to jump off furniture because it may hurt his joints.
