Toulouse is dog reactive and would be happiest as an only dog in his forever home. Toulouse wants to be the center of attention and will resource guard his toys and humans around other dogs. This behavior is always immediately corrected in his foster home but, because of this, we feel he will be happiest as an only doggie. He will need to live with a family that has previous dog experience, does not give in to his demands, and corrects him when he gets pushy. He does listen to corrections very well and minds his manners when told to do so. He is a very, very well- mannered boy when other dogs are not around. Toulouse is a super smart dog, who needs an owner with dog experience. Be sure to describe your experience in your application!
Toulouse perks up at the sight of the cats in his foster home and has chased them, but has never been able to catch them. Due to this, we feel Toulouse would do best in a home with no kitties around as well. Toulouse will also not be placed in a home with children younger than 12 years old or one where young children visit. He has a bite history with very young children and while he has never broken skin, he is reported to be very nervous and anxious around small children.
Toulouse is an active dog and LOVES to run and play fetch out in the back yard with his toys. He's a stuffie de-stuffer, so he only gets hard toys or stuffing-less toys. His all-time favorite game is fetch (he loves his ball!) but, overall, he loves to hang out with his people and wants to be doing whatever his people are doing. Toulouse likes to go on walks and is a pretty active guy who will need an active person or family. Because he loves walks so much, a fenced yard is preferred, but not required.
Toulouse is 100% house broken. He is crate trained and frequently sleeps in his kennel. He is obedience trained and knows Sit, Stay, Come, Down, Go Potty and Go to Bed. He's super smart, so someone who can continue working with him on tricks and training would be beneficial for him and we think he'd love the stimulation.
