*Special Needs – Deaf*

*NOTE: Booth has a bite history*

Booth is deaf and has some mild allergies. He is a smart boy and knows hand signals, but is eager to learn more. His mild allergies are easily managed with a grain free diet and the occasional Zyrtec.

For companions, Booth prefers just his people. He has never been exposed to children, but given his bite history (he's nipped hard enough to draw blood more than once, but there has never been a need for medical attention), an adult only home will be required. While Booth tolerates the other dogs in his foster home, he does resource guard his people when other dogs are present. As he loves to be the center of attention, he would thrive in a home where he is the only dog. Despite not being a good fit with children or other dogs, Booth has no problem with cats! He pays them no mind and is happy to live with them.

Booth LOVES his people. His favorite activity is just hanging out with them! His second favorite activity is walks. While he can’t go long distances, his short daily walks are key to making him a happy boy.

In terms of behavior, Booth does have a dominant streak. He was surrendered back to FBRN due to nipping the feet of men. His foster mom and a certified trainer believe that this behavior is learned. It’s likely that at some point, people – likely men – played with Booth with their feet. Booth will occasionally nip or bite at men’s feet to get their attention. In his foster home, he has only exhibited this behavior a few times in the past four months. While the behavior is infrequent, his forever family must continue to work with him so the behavior does not escalate. Luckily, Booth is easily redirected, is very food motivated, and thrives on positive reinforcement. His forever family must be prepared to continue his positive reinforcement training in general and specifically for this behavior, so Booth has the best opportunity to succeed and improve.

Booth is housebroken and has had zero accidents! He is also crate-trained! As mentioned previously, Booth is obedience trained with hand signals, but needs a forever home that will train him further and continue to help him improve his confidence, so his reactions continue to diminish. He currently knows come, sit, and stay. Since he is so treat motivated, he loves to learn!
