Last week my 9 year old French bulldog started having seizures. He has had 4 in the past week and a half. The first one was pretty severe but they are milder now. We have started anti seizure meds and our vet is happy that the severity has lessened. I am still extremely worried. I am very concerned it’s a brain tumor versus epilepsy since he has had so many in this short period of time. Has anyone had any experiences with seizures?

I'm sorry you are going through this. ❤️ I will say, while I don't have advice on seizures, my last dog, an amazing Boston Terrier named Boomer, did have a brain tumor. Seizures were not one of her symptoms - her legs were giving out and eventually she because paralyzed in her hind legs due to pressure the tumor put on her spine. It was horrible as you can imagine, but no seizures.

Has the vet mentioned a brain tumor as a possibility? I'm in absolutely no way a veterinary professional but I would think that because your baby is responding well to meds that epilepsy would be a big possibility? I'd ask your vet their opinion. I'm pray for you and your pup. Please keep us posted! ❤️

The vet has told me not to worry yet. Just closely monitor him but I find it very weird that he has having so many seizures in a short period of time.hopefully it’s just epilepsy

I know some dogs have had reactions to vaccines or flea/heartworm meds. Has he had any of those lately?

I'm sure the whole thing has been scary. So sorry you guys are going though that. :(

We have experience with seizures in another breed, our 14 year old terrier mix. She suddenly had a seizure presumably brought on by our Christmas tree lights several years ago. After two or three violent seizures and meds from the vet we unplugged the lights and she improved. That being said, she was still having mild seizures 1-2 times per week thru December. We were advised from our vet that to get more information we would need to see a specialist and they may only be able to provide limited information as to the cause/treatment. Our vet urged us to continue treatment since she was responding and based on her age and other health concerns not to jump into a specialist visit. Unfortunately, by the end of January she stopped responding to the phenobarbital and her quality of life was obviously compromised. She passed away at home and we never found the cause of the seizures or know if that’s what took her from us.

I certainly can relate to your feelings right now, it’s so scary to not understand the cause or to know if it’s something that is fixable. Hopefully you and you vet have a good relationship and they have your trust, a good veterinarian is the best opportunity for a good outcome. I’m am truly sorry you are dealing with this and do hope he continues to improve❤️my thoughts and prayers are with you❤️
