Gorgeous Buckley is a 7-year-old cream puff who had a back injury back in January. His family was unable to afford his surgery at the time of his injury and his care became more than they could manage due to having two young children in the home. His family did the right thing for Buckley and surrendered him to FBRN so that he could get the care and attention he needed. Now, he's on the available page and is ready to wheel on into his new forever home! This sad case is a good reminder to people considering a French bulldog. It's an excellent idea to buy pet insurance for your Frenchie, or to consider whether your bank account or credit card can manage the cost of spinal surgery or the commitment to recovery and care that may follow. Back injuries are very common in Frenchies, and if you own one, you should be prepared for the costs--financial and emotional-- associated with this breed's care.

Buckley is paralyzed from the waist down. He is currently doing physical therapy for his paralysis and his adoptive family should be prepared to continue this for him. He is incontinent and cannot go potty on his own. His foster mom will teach you how to express his bladder. When she's home, she does it every 1-3 hours - every 6 hours or so when she is not home. As long as his bladder does not get too full, he will not leak any urine. He doesn't even have to wear a diaper! He will poop whenever he has to go - he has no control over that. Buckley eats a special raw diet to help with his stools - it gives him small, firm poops that are easy to clean up.

Handsome Buckley is very easy-going. He likes to go for walks in his cart, but otherwise he just hangs out in the house and likes to be where his people are. He gets around extremely well without his cart. He doesn't even know he's paralyzed and thinks he's just a normal dog. He doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for him!

Buckley is not really a fan of other dogs. But as long as they leave him alone, he's just fine. One other submissive dog would be okay, but Buckley wouldn't want another pooch in his face trying to play with him. Cats, however, are okay by Buckley.

A home with older kids who can understand Buckley's limitations would be just fine.

Temperament-wise, Buckley is pretty laid-back. He usually loves everyone he meets and he LOVES attention. However, every once in a while he can get a little scared of strangers. His body-language will clue you into the fact that he's uncomfortable. But slow-introductions to strangers will keep him calm and happy. Sometimes he just wants a little bit of alone time (don't we all?) and he might get insecure if there are too many new people around. Most of the time he just loves to be with his people - snuggling and getting pets and kisses!

Buckley has a doggie play pen that he hangs out in when his foster mom is not home. He is very easy to care for despite his disability. A firm, consistent leader will keep Buckley happy and secure. Because of his easy-going nature he'd do well in almost any kind of household. Obviously, he cannot go up and down stairs. But that ain't no thang so long as you're willing to carry him up and down the stairs with you!

He would LOVE to go to the office with you because that would mean getting to be around people ALL DAY! As long as the other dogs in the office give him his space, he'll be happy as a clam.
