Our family got a frenchie last week, and she turned 12 weeks on Monday. She is gorgeous and very small. The Vet said she was concerned about her weight of 6.3 pounds, and that she probably wont be heavier than 10-11 lbs as an adult (based on the fact the by 12 weeks puppies are already 60% of their future total weight). She also mentioned what could be causing this could be a Liver Shunt, but they don't want to check for that for another 4 weeks to see how she is doing between now and then. We've been going to this clinic for years with our other dog (non-frenchie), and they have always seemed component, but her outlook seemed a little grim based on just a wellness check and not running any tests.

Based on what I've read on these forums and other sites, it seems a little premature to jump to those conclusions (but Im not pretending to know more than the vet), it just seems weird. The dad is 25 lbs, and the mom is 20 lbs. I talked to the breeder about the appointment today, and she doesn't buy any of it. She said the mom was small too, and there is another sibling around the same weight right now. She still thinks it will be around 20 lbs. They are a reputable and well known breader, so I still place confidence in them.

I'm just curious if the weight and size sound any alarms for you guys?

She looks fine; other than the weight, did the Vet mention any issues following the check-up?

The Vet mentioned her belly is a little large, and she has a wide rear stance. The vet thinks the stance might be wider than normal because of her bigger belly.

She is a cute little bugger, and definitely on the small size. Looks fairly healthy in the pics. I would just give it some time and see how it goes. If there is an English bulldog or French bulldog specialist in your area, I would take her there to see what they think. Most vets don't know that much about Frenchies.

My little Wilhelmina (Minnie for short) was the runt of the litter and weighed about the same at your puppy's age. The vet also told me she wouldn't make it over 10 lbs. She's now 17 lbs at 2 yrs old. I would be cautiously optimistic. Puppies change a LOT over the first few years, so keep your chin up and your thoughts positive and try not to worry until there's something to worry about. :) ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL!

My pup was 1.2kg (2.6lb) at 12 weeks. He is now 6 months and weighs Around 15 lbs. I think all Frenchie’s have their own journeys!

Our Winston is going on 18 weeks and is only hitting 8 pounds. He's always been small but according to the vet he's perfectly healthy. We were also concerned as he's got a bit of a belly, which is something I raised with the vet, but we did a fecal float and it came back clean. The vet didn't see anything to be worried about so I'm thinking it's probably a combination of his small size and the fact that he's still a puppy.
