Hi,

I am wondering if any of your frenchies have experienced a collapsed or paralyzed Larnyx? I have a 7 year old female frenchie that had a surgery a few years ago by getting a tieback on side of her larnyx because it was paralyzed - as I have learned this can be from BAS (airway) putting havoc on their breathing.
So now, I have another frenchie Haven that is 14 months old that I took to a board Certified Surgeon to be spayed and have her palate and nares looked at, when they had her under anesthesia, the vet called me and said that Haven had a larynx that was collapsed and didn't recommend spaying her but recommended doing her palate and saccules and nares only, and then addressing the larynx at a later date. She said it was imperative for her breathing to do the surgery. So we agreed, they did the surgery and sent her home the same day. The next day, Havens throat swelled up and could hardly breathe. So we took her to the emergency vet, and by that time she had developed pneumonia either from aspiration from food or the anesthesia. They put her in an oxygen tank for 4 days, they actually had to put a temporary tracheotomy so she could breathe. She is out of the vet and healing now thank god 19K$ later.
I am in misbelief that I have 2 frenchies with this problem. I am very concerned on what this larynx situation is going to be down the road. I am so scared she will have to have a permanent tracheotomy if breathing becomes an issue. I need to consult with a specialist in Southern California soon. Just was wondering if anyone else has dealt with larynx or trachea issues.

Sorry you are having these problems. I haven't had to deal with this and hopefully someone will have some experience with this.
