Nikolas is a hunky Frenchie with a peculiar surrender story. His former owner’s girlfriend brought Nikolas to the vet and requested he be put to sleep, claiming he had bitten her larger dog. When the vet contacted Nikolas’ owner, he knew nothing of it, and asked that Nikolas be surrendered instead of euthanized. It’s hard to say what transpired exactly, but his foster mom has not observed any guarding issues or food aggression when Nikolas is with any of her resident dogs. However, it would be best if Nikolas were the only pet in his forever home, since he can become vocally aggressive around other dogs, particularly if they are larger.

His foster mom describes him as a laid-back guy. He requires little more than a short walk or romp around the yard. He is content to be in his human’s company. He chooses love over food. Nikolas is a quiet dog, but when he first meets a new human, he will bark like they are an intruder. Then, when they approach, he will flop over onto his side in total submission. He loves to play and is very smart. It is important for Nikolas to receive adequate one-on-one attention in his forever home. He is a good boy, and he is totally non-destructive.

This sweet boy is housebroken and crate-trained. He knows some basic commands, but his leash skills could be refined. Nikolas’ ultimate happiness is human companionship. He will bring his human a Nylabone or stuffy, and he is content to play fetch or chew his toy at your feet. He is only interested in toys when he is around his humans.

Nikolas’ ideal home is an adult-only home where he is the only pet. Because he has not been exposed to cats, Nikolas will not be placed in a home with felines, per FBRN policy. A first-time Frenchie owner is okay, but his forever parents must be experienced dog owners. Nikolas has been fine when he’s been exposed to young children, but he was brought up in an adult-only home and has only had limited exposure, so to err on the side of caution, we suggest older kids only for Nikolas--8 and over. He would be fine in either an apartment or a house, as long as he is the only pet. Nikolas has typical skin allergies, but he also has alopecia (hair loss) on his feet. He is on a limited ingredient diet and must be bathed weekly. He takes Benadryl daily for his allergies.

It would be preferable if his new owner worked from home or was home most of the day. Nikolas has already spent too much of his life crated and needs some quality time with his human for the rest of his days.
