Pied princess Anna wasnā€™t feeling very royal when she first arrived at FBRN. Her skin was raw from scratching, her nails were overgrown, she was terribly underweight, and her ears were swollen shut from infection. But now, for the first time in forever, Annaā€™s allergies are under control, and she is ready to embark on her next adventureā€”the search for a forever home! (Reindeer, talking snowman, and cute guy not included.)

Now that Anna isnā€™t so uncomfortable in her own skin, her loving personality is really shining through. She is a sweet, mellow girl who thrives on attention from her people, and she is content to laze about the house all day in the company of her favorite human. But donā€™t let her laid back demeanor fool youā€”Annaā€™s got some spunk, and she will never turn down a game of tug or a romp around the yard with her four-legged foster siblings. She loves other dogs and would definitely be happiest in a home where she has some canine companionship. (Since sheā€™s never met a cat, and because discretion is the better part of valor, weā€™re saying no to kitties.)

Anna is also one smart cookie! She already knows her basic commands, including sit, stay, down, no, and come, and appears eager to learn more. Continuing this training would be an excellent way for Anna to bond with her new family. The one area where she could use a little work is leash mannersā€”Anna loves to go on walks, but she pulls a bit too hard in her excitement to get into the great wide open. Fortunately, she responds very well to gentle correction, and with some continued training, we have no doubt that sheā€™ll soon be walking on the leash like a perfect lady.

A house, apartment, log cabin, or ice palace would suit Anna just fineā€”sheā€™s not terribly picky, so long as thereā€™s a warm lap for some good old fashioned cuddling. However, because most of her previous life was spent alone in a crate, Anna would not do well being locked up for hours on end. She suffers from thickened bladder walls (the result of holding her urine for many hours while crated) and she must be coaxed to go potty several times a day to prevent urinary tract infections. In addition, it is a good idea to keep an eye on this little chewerā€”if left unmonitored in the yard, she will gnaw on anything in sight, including sticks, leaves, and the occasional insect. For these reasons, an owner who works from home, or who isnā€™t out of the house for several hours at a time, would be her best match. Anna would also love to accompany you to workā€”she plays wonderfully with others, people and dogs alikeā€”and would be more than happy to snuggle at your feet while you do whatever it is that brings home the bacon (or dog biscuits, as the case may be).

The most important thing to know about Anna is that her current allergy regimen must be followed to a T in order to keep her itchies at bay. This includes weekly or biweekly medicated baths, oral medication, daily supplements, and a raw food diet. It took a great deal of effort to develop this course of treatment, and it is essential that it be maintained in her forever home.
