Nemo has a bite history.

Have you been searching for a sensitive, loving little companion? Well, look no further. You have found Nemo. This gorgeous cream puff with eyes like limpid pools is the catch of the day.

Nemo was surrendered to FBRN because his despite his fish-based diet, his owners couldn't get a handle on his skin issues, which included irritation, thin hair, bald patches and an MSRP infection. While in our care, Nemo’s skin was treated by a dermatologist. His diet was supplemented with fish oils plus he received bi-weekly medicated baths and antifungal medication. A follow-up hair pluck, skin scraping and culture in March showed that he was negative for MSRP. All this good care has soothed his skin and allowed his creamy coat to fill in beautifully. His new owners will need to monitor his skin closely, and enlist the services of a doggy dermatologist to keep Nemo's skin in good condition. His only other health issue is that he has spaces between three of his rear vertebrae. This doesn't seem to bother him in the least, but he should not be allowed to jump on and off furniture.

Nemo likes to go on short strolls, but like many Frenchies, is not a fan of rain and mud. He loathes puddles and will avoid them at all costs, preferring to keep his handsome, cream coat as clean and dry as possible. He’s a gentleman, after all. He occasionally goes into “zippy” mode -- racing around the house at high speeds after his bath or when someone gets home. It's quite entertaining! He is house trained and crate trained, though he might poop in situations where he is extremely stressed, for example during a vet visit. He knows basic commands such as "sit", "outside", and "go to your house", and loves chasing and chewing on his tennis ball. When he’s done enough fetching, he’ll let you know by running back to his house with his tennis ball in his mouth. Nemo also likes to chew on sturdy, soft toys and rubber bones.

This little hunk is very sensitive to his person's emotions. He prefers women, and gallantly tries to defend them from marauding vacuum cleaners. He lived with 6 young children in the past, and their bouncy kid activities and wrassling would get Nemo agitated. He would try and get between the kids, leap up and grab clothes. He did make skin contact in these episodes, but has not broken the skin. Nemo would be best off in a quiet home with adults who are confident, secure leaders.

He was quite timid when he came to us. He walked low to the ground and rolled onto his back when he heard his name. He has since gained confidence, thanks to his understanding foster parents, but is sensitive to tone of voice and needs a calm, assertive owner. He continues to have trust issues with men, so any man in the house will need to be very gentle and understanding in order to gain Nemo's confidence. Nemo dislikes the vet very much. He especially dislikes male vets. It is not easy to examine him, and he may need to be muzzled at the vet's office (although it is difficult to keep a muzzle on his smooshy little face).

A calm, quiet home would suit Nemo best. An apartment would not be ideal, because he barks when he hears the doorbell or a commotion outside. He would love to have someone home most of the time, or at least half the day. Taking him to the office would probably be too stressful for him as meeting new people can make him anxious.
