    High PH in urine

Does anyone have any idea what causes high PH levels in urine?

I don't have any firsthand experience with this but I think high ph levels can be due to a UTI or crystals. I know you feed semi raw, but going fully raw might help with this issue.

Yes... might be crystals... it has been on EBN a number of times. Depending on what type of crystal determines the fix, but raw usually fixes it

Two other possible causes are a urinary tract infection with urease producing bacteria such as Proteus, Staphylococcus or Klebsiella spp which commonly results in struvite bladder or kidney stones; or very rarely a type of kidney disease called distal renal tubular acidosis. You should get dog's urine tested for struvite crystals and for an infection. Distal renal tubular acidosis can be detected by blood work- it will show hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis.

If it's diet related, a high protein low carb diet will solve the problem , best diet would be a prey frozen raw food diet with some of your own vegetables thrown in on the side.

Thank you for the info. Because this is Bitty and she has had her liver issue for the past 2.5 years, she gets her blood tested regularly. Her last blood test looked pretty good with nothing significant showing. She had a urinalysis about 1.5 months ago, which showed a UTI and was put on an anitbiotic for that, which seemed to clear it up. This last urinalysis which was about 1.5 WEEKS ago is the one that showed everything looked good, except a high PH of 9.

Typically, we have them on a low carb diet, but because of her significant weight loss over the past 6-7 months (she got sick with something we are still not sure what), we have her on a diet of multigrain baby cereal, plus we cook her pork, beef, and rice as well as sweet potatoes and carrots (all this is mashed up together) and she gets this 3 x daily. Her weight has been a difficult struggle. But we may be finally heading in the right direction with it, so I'm a little weary to take her off the rice and grain cereal.

Sorry to hear about all of her issues. If the vet has determined that she needs that diet, I guess you have to follow it. You could give methionine to acidify the urine. eghttps://www.amazon.com/BulkSupplemen...00JV7ZY3G?th=1

Itís not a vet recommended diet actually. We are just trying to get weight on her, but also have to be cautious because of her liver issue. Itís tough to say the least. I will check out the link, thank you!

If you are just using that diet to try to get weight on her, can you try a raw food PREY diet with added vegetables and krill oil 500mg per day and sea kelp 1/8 tsp twice daily https://www.amazon.com/STARWEST-BOTA.../dp/B0071GWMA2 ? You can also add coconut oil which will help her gain weight - 1/4 tsp per 10 pounds twice daily. And if you give the krill oil give natural source Vitamin E 400IU once a week.
