Re: Blood in stool for months

Thank you both so much. These past few days have been crazy and rough. Draco ended up having to stay until the late afternoon the next day, so he was almost there for 48 hours, some of the hardest few hours in my life. He was on IVs and anti-nausea for his throwing up on Sunday, and then I was told an X-Ray would be taken and if it was fine he could come home. The X-Ray showed a possible partial obstruction so he had to wait until the next day to get an ultrasound, not able to eat until then. The ultrasound revealed no obstruction just a very severe case of gastroenteritis, the doctor does not know why it came on all of the sudden but his bacterial infection has something to do with it. Now we have an appointment in 2 weeks for an internal medicine specialist in the hospital, and Draco is on a tremendous amount of meds. I canceled the holistic doctor for tomorrow, I really wanted to see some natural ways I could help him but right now he's on so much stuff I don't want to add anything else and possibly mess it up. Throughout his time with blood in his stool, he very rarely had diarrhea, most of the time it was pretty normal firmness but he has gone poop once since he's gotten home and it was very watery diarrhea with blood. I am hoping it's just because he had so much of the IV fluids, he has been peeing like crazy since he got home so hopefully, it will get better. And I really hope the other specialist will be able to help him, it is getting so frustrating, I feel like he can never just live a normal life and have fun, this has been going on for 1/2 of his life, and the majority of his time with us. I am not sure why his bacterial infection is so resistant to antibiotics, we've tried so many different kinds, I'm not sure what is next for us.

So sorry to hear this but Iím hoping youíll be able to get some answers from the specialist and theyíll get Draco back on track. Antibiotics will do a number on his gut and his poop can be off for a bit while in them. Louie was on Clavamox and Prednisone a month or so ago and his dumps were horrible. Make sure you give a probiotic if you arenít already.

Re: Blood in stool for months

I’ve been trying to wait until I know more to update but it feels like forever until he sees the hospital specialist on Tuesday. He is doing better since getting out the hospital, but still throwing up every few days. Our primary vet retested Draco’s stool and the bad bacteria is gone. That should be good news but he is still having blood in his stool so it doesn’t really change anything. I talked to someone on Reddit and they said their dog was bleeding for a year due to food intolerances, which they never expected, so I am hoping it’s something simple like that that we can fix but I’m starting to think it’s likely IBD, but not sure why we have not received a diagnosis for that yet. I’m really concerned though because he is not responsive to food or antibiotic treatments so I’m not sure what will be able to help him. I’m also concerned that he is taking soooo many antibiotics and medicines. I know being on them for prolonged periods of time is not good at all. Does anyone know of any natural remedies for anything I can try? Nausea, colitis, etc. I saw the honest Kitchen has a supplement for gastrointestinal issues I’m willing to try, the ingredients are Papaya leaf, plantain leaf, slippery elm, pumpkin seed, pectin, papain and fennel and the reviews are terrific I’m still scared though, Draco’s stomach just isn’t right. So sensitive, the times he throws up sometimes there will be a tiny piece of stick bark (I don’t let him play with sticks but he tries his best) or one blade of grass and he throws up I don’t know if it’s the tiniest things that affect him or what causes his vomiting. Thanks for reading. I’m really losing sleep these days just worrying and worrying.

I just saw a post on a local Frenchie Facebook page where someone was asking what people did for their Frenchies with IBD and here is a response:

Re: Blood in stool for months

So here is what I've got, the specialist said she is quite certain it is Histiocytic ulcerative colitis, our primary vet told us that he didn't think so before, but it's been so chronic that I can't say that him having HUC doesn't make sense. It's a form of IBD so it was in the direction we were assuming anyway, he has to get a colonoscopy to confirm the diagnosis, and then we will start treatment. She actually said to stop the tylan and amoxicillin because it won't work for this. @2bullymama . Thank you @Cbrugs , I actually have seen all of those before and plan to maybe try the gut soothe, they are going to do a PCR test before the colonoscopy to look at the microbiome and I did ask about fecal transplants and the specialist said she usually recommends that after trying baytril first. I don't like the idea of him being on medicine everyday for the rest of his life so maybe the fecal transplant pills can be considered when we get this under control. When Draco's B12 levels were tested before, they were normal which isn't usually consistent with IBD like the person mentioned they usually need extra B12, so that's why regular IBD has been confusing to diagnose Draco with and might be why it is this specific kind. It just sucks because this disease since it is rare, it doesn't seem there is a lot of information on things that help those that suffer from HUC. Soooo nervous for colonoscopy !!!
