I just do not think it is the right thing to do to my puppy Bleu

They say Frenchies are not able to have intercourse naturally so accidents in the park to me is very unlikely to happen.

There is also a lot of information against it like this vet is talking about in this video. What do you guys think?

Mine isn't neutered. Our vet and breeder asked us to wait as long as we could, behavior allowing. He's 2 now and has no issues -- no aggression, no humping, no dominance issues and no super possessive issues. He's just a good dog who acts like he is neutered. We aren't opposed to neutering, but with this dog it just hasn't made sense for us. The prospect of putting him under scares me, and I think that's why I've put it off so long. He may be neutered in the future, but for now he is fine as is. I think it's a personal decision and should be based on the individual dog. Plus, mine is never out of my sight and we never have to worry about the risk of an accident.

Our breeder has asked us to do the same. Banksy is 7 months old and we don't have a date set. We will if we need to when we need to. Same opinion as above. We are guessing between 1 and 2 but not sure.

Our vet suggested waiting until they are at least 2.

I think males should be neutered before they are 5 years old to remove the risk of testicular cancer/other related life threatening conditions since age 7 is when they are at high risk for such problems but behavior allowing and no issues, I would never before 2 years of age for male dogs.

Wait as long as possible.

I have a female, but she isnt spayed and I do not plan on getting her spayed. (I did buy her with potential breeding rights).

We have had similiar threads on here before, if you use the search option, Im sure you will find a ton ;)

Everybody has a different opinion on this subject, but Id definitely wait as long as possible because I can see how important sexual organs are for the overall health of an animal.

We had planned to wait longer to neuter Buster, but his behavior at 8 months made in necessary. Buster's dad is a Frenchie and his mother is an Olde English Bulldogge. We think Buster's dad must have caught his mom sleeping. He got the job done naturally!

That is where I find it a bit odd to be honest.
I mean us humans do not remove our sexual organs in order to prevent the possibility of cancer. Becuase it just doesn't look like the logical thing to do.

Most european countries only neuter/spay if absolutely necessary due to behaviour issues or health issues (or if you have an outdoor cat). Some countries even banned spaying/neutering in general.
If this was so true, you'd see an enormous increase in testicular/mammary cancer in Europe, which(surprise, surprise) you do not.

Anyway, lot's of different opinions on this,so best to continue doing your research & then make a decision for yourself :)

My mother in laws dog died of pyometra, so since I wouldn't breed my female dogs, I always spay them.

Many vets here don't press on neutering, but if you are going to decide to neuter, they suggest after 2, and before 7. Usually around 4-5 years old.

I'd just weigh the pros and cons. I'm waiting as long as possible to neuter, but I'm not against leaving dogs intact either.

I would wait until he is about 18 months of age before doing it, but would definitely get it done.

Frenchies CAN breed naturally. Accidents in the park are definitely a possibility if you an an intact male and female there. Keep a close eye on him for sure if you leave him intact.

I personally would neuter him when he is older, but everyone has their own opinion about it.

Hello guys, wanted to start this topic again because of my situation. I would love some advice from everyone! (without starting another thread)

Banksy is 10 months old
Aiko is 12 weeks old

We planned on waiting until Banksy was over 1 year to get him neutered. But now with our baby girl... he wont leave her alone. Tries to mount her. and is just constantly on her case.

We are working really hard to just correct these things on our own, and he is a good dog so we have confidence in him.. but do you guys think neutering should happen sooner than later anyway now that we have a little girl in the home?

Thoughts?

If you wait until he is over a year then you risk the possibility of Aiko coming into heat and then he will really go nuts. But I do think it is a personal decision that has to be made in each household. I would have waited longer to neuter Jake but I couldn't take him mounting everything, including my leg. His little wee-wee was always a little drippy too and would get on everyone's clothes when we held him. The mounting really subsided after neutering him. I think you will eventually be able to determine when it is the right time for Banksy.

Yeah. it is such a personal choice. I have been doing research online and figured I would also ask once more again here.

My vet has been recommending us to get it done for a few months now. But we only actually seriously considered booking it after Aiko came.

So we booked an appointment to get it done Jan 15th because I have the following 2 days off.... but booking it has made me so nervous. I might cancel it... my partner and I are discussing it and doing training with him over the next week to solidify where we stand with the matter

We don't want him to change :(

Wally's personality never changed after being neutered, and he was 1 year old.

Banksy will be 1 in only 2 months. I don't have a Frenchie female but Uma came in heat at 6 months old so you might be able to wait for another 2 months. Hopefully those that breed or know better will pipe in about when female Frenchies go in heat.

We were holding off getting Dexter neutered as long as possible as he hadn't been interested in humping at all - until Xmas time..... He constantly humped my mum and dads male Bichon and it caused a lot of problems. He's since taken to humping his Santa toy, so it's definitely time!

It's tough when you now have a little girl in the equation. I'd just go with doing whatever you feel will be best for both of them. It's not an easy decision to make. If it wasn't for the nonsense we had over Xmas I'd still be debating with myself!

Jax was neutered at 6 months and his personality didn't change one bit. The only thing that changed was his constant humping of my arm.

Omg, please dont get her done now !!! Wow! That your vet even recommended such thing :bad:

Females usually dont go in heat until they are at least 6 months old. Sometimes it takes longer (Maple had her first heat around 8 1/2 months). Id just wait a couple more months and get your male fixed then.

We aren't getting her spayed now!!! We're only talking Banksy here. The vet recommended getting him neutered. Not aiko ! I would never even think of spaying her right now!

What age do you recommend waiting for him then just after 1 years old?

Oh ok. I misread then :p
I'd wait as long as possible. If you can wait until 18 mths, awesome. If he is constantly humping at 1 year, get it done then. It really depends on each person and the individual dog, but the longer you can wait, the better ;)
