Hi everyone!

It's been such a long time since I posted here (our life's been a little insane!) and I hope you guys are all doing well and your babies are all too! I know some of you probably remember us - I'm Nicki and Ella is my tiny, now 7 year old baby brindle girl.

I wanted to post here and get some opinions/hopefully have my mind put at ease a bit. Ella just turned 7 and unfortunately, has a (probably and hopefully benign) mammary tumor. It has been my worst nightmare to hear and of course it's going to need to be removed, though thankfully it's not urgent (and she has been scanned from head to toe, bloodwork drawn repeatedly, everything to make sure it's localized), which has given me some time to look around at vets. We are in NJ and I am willing to literally drive to the ends of the earth for her, so I am currently considering taking her to Richmond Valley in Staten Island as I know so many of you recommended them to me - I took her for a consultation and met with the associate doctor, Dr. Esposito, who was absolutely wonderful. It'd be her and the main doctor, Dr. Shull, who'd be doing the procedure. I spoke at length with her about the anesthesia protocol and she was telling me just how many they see, which is a LOT, so they are familiar with the protocol and they don't use any of the drugs listed as dangerous OTHER than the occasional use of Acepromezine, which she promised me they wouldn't use anywhere near her. Their optimal choice is usually Propofol or in this case which might be a bit of a longer procedure, she said they might choose to go for the ketamine and valium option.

I really, really liked her, and they are known for being bulldog specialists (the whole office actually is filled with bulldog pictures and everything and their were four other ones there while I was there) but of course I am nervous over all of this, and worried maybe since the office was a bit old-fashioned, that they aren't equipped enough to do the surgery. Has anyone here used them? Or do any of you have any other advice, both about this and the mammary tumor itself? I appreciate any and all help and I apologize for the long post. I just want to do this so it has the best possible outcome as I'm terrified of losing her.

I can't offer any advice, but good luck to you and your sweet girl. I know exactly how you feel. Frenchies are so special. Please keep us posted. God bless.

Breathe! If you trust them and have used them before, you have to do what is best for her. I’ve heard , over the years, many praises about this hospital. I am not I that area so am not speaking from experience, just know a few bulldogs owners have used Richmond and have great results.

if you are not comfortable with them, then look around and get a second opinion. I’ve heard good things about Blue Pearl facilities so see if one is near you… another that is good in North Jersey is I think it is Titon Falls vet or Red Bank vet, I can’t remember, but it is in Red Bank and an ER specialist facilitiy.

sending lots of prayers and hugs to you all.
