Hi folks. I am a very experienced Boxer breeder of some 38 odd years. I havnt had boxers for a while now but have Frenchies. They are similar but different form the boxer. Recently my bitch had a litter of 8 puppies! She is doing fairly well by them, typical c section mumma, but i am having some worrying issues with them. Some of them jet milk out their noses when feeding. They are now 2 weeks old and this is still happening but only to 3 of them. I cant sleep because i have to keep wiping the milk away as they start to choke and panic! We have literally had every vet and vet nurse at my clinic looking in their mouths and down their throats and say everything looks totally normal. My bitch does tend to throw her milk down so were thinking this is the issue? Rarely if ever saw that in the boxer pups. Can any breeders tell me if this is typical of the Frenchie? Secondly they are soo constipated because Mabel just dosnt really wash them much even with heaps of encouragement. I have had to do enemas to get them pooping and now they can poop with just warm wet massage but OMG the screaming! Its terrible! Ive never heard pups carry on like this! I am using lots of lube round their bums and gentle wet massage to try to help them. Is this typical drama drama of this breed? Boxer pups that needed help may squeal a bit but mostly they grunted. Vets dont know much about puppies as most vets never breed.

I have seen many pups encounter this and as long as there are no issues with cleft palette then it is normally cause by the vigorous way they are nursing or suckling too fast so they intake air and milk at a rate that they don't tolerate. I have seen many use a bulb suction and clear the nares as to help avoid aspiration. unlike many puppies whose moms are self-sufficient and don't need checking through the nights Frenchie's are different and should be monitored. Having French pups is very labor intensive; breeders get little sleep for weeks. America must be different from New Zealand. our vets know about puppies whether they breed or not because that's part of their professional jobs. best of luck to you and your pups.

Thanks for that info I too thought it was Mabels milk flow affecting them. The pups are right beside my bed day and night which is how I bred all my boxer litters. Last night they seemed much better and are now up using the pee pads for wees. I hope to get those bowels moving right soon. Every day they get stronger and certainly fatter! Little piggies!
