Rusty had his vet check up on Monday to check his ear to make sure the yeast infection is gone.
The vet did say the ear is NOT infected anymore but is very inflamed and sore still.

The ear drops I was using that did in fact get rid of the infection, I stopped using it 4 days before the vet follow up appointment so they have a accurate to know if it’s healed or not.

We were told you need to continue using the ear drops until his ear is not inflamed and sore, so I started again last night, I put the 4 drops of the ear drops in last night(we did this for 14 days before the follow up).
He was shaking his head way more after the vet took a swab of what was in his ear to check it, that’s when things started getting crazy with more irritation. Very strange!

Last night he did shake his head more, but he always does after cleaning his ears.

This morning, he got out of bed and we came downstairs he was shaking his head lots and instead of wanting outside to pee first, he went into the dog bed and layed down and was crying in the bed with a little head tilt and shaking his head, I knew something was off, he doesn’t cry like that.

He shook his head SO much and was still tilted his head and I could tell he was feeling off/not well.
He slept ALL day and not interested in playing really. His ear is SO red and irritated it looks like it’s swollen.

I didn’t want to try the vet ear drops cause a side effects are: deafness and irritation, and it’s a steroid.

I already got rid of the ear infection from the natural ear drops and I’m not sure if he literally just got another infection or not but I think cause I had to stop using the ear drops 4 days before the vet follow up, that could have caused the infection to come back. He has not had any baths to cause this again.

I did just put the ear drops from the vet into his ear tonight, I’m still freaked out if the potential deafness and irritation as side effect but I can’t see him like this and to see this for the first time of his ear really being sore that he has a bit of a head tilt off and on, and is going crazy itching and shaking his head is not good, and the ear this morning wasn’t good either.

I am hoping the ear will improve soon with the vet medication drops, that was 100% last resort but I have basically no choice now to use it, I already put it in his ear tonight and will do it for the 12 days as directed.

Also the laser therapy lady will come tomorrow so it speeds up the healing of the ear.

This is SO frustrating, I just cleared up 1 ear infection and was confirmed on Monday(3 days ago) that the infection is GONE, now another infection?

Bloodwork came back good, but he has ingrown eyelashes that are irritating his eyes and the vet wants us to take him to a eye specialist vet which there is only 1 of around here, and we were told it would have to be surgical laser to the spots the ingrown eyelashes keep coming from, when they pluck them they just grow back, but the eye specialist doesn’t use laser so basically they can remove those eyelashes that are rubbing on his eyeball and they will still re grow back so there is no point in doing that if they will continue to grow back, it’s just irritating his eyes and it’s too thin to pluck with tweezers!

With this, I also have no idea the best route is! The eyes are just so irritated and watery causing his wrinkles to be irritated too!

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for the ingrown eyelashes and to help his ear infection???

For those that had these issues, what did you do for the eyes and what cleared the ear infection???

If it's red and inflamed, obviously there's still an infection. So yeast is cleared but maybe staph infection now. Maybe the natural ear drops didn't dry quick enough.

Hopefully it clears up. When Charlie had her yeast ear infection, the vet packed the ear with the medication. Didn't have to worry about drops or anything.

Oh, no!

Did you clean his ear as well as apply the drops?

This breed is the best, IMO, but their health issues can be challenging. Good luck.

We were told no yeast or bacteria in his ear and no infection, i am not sure what kind of infection happened in the last 2 days after the vet appointment.

They don’t put the ears meds in, they send us home with something and we have to do daily ear drops.

Thank you for your response!

Yes I did clean the ear before applying the drops.
I’m so confused as to how he has no infection just inflamed ear on Monday at vet, now not even 2 days later a new infection. And his symptoms are worse now the head tilt and more itchy and swollen, I don’t know what else to do for him to help his ear ☹️

I definitely agree this breed is the best and the Health issues can be challenging, but I wouldn’t hesitate to get another in the future.

Have you heard of those ingrown eyelashes? Any suggestions for that?

Thank you for your response and the good luck , I appreciate it.

Ask your vet about packing the ear... it is called Calero (spelling). The put that med in the ear and you don't touch the ear with anything for like three weeks. it was the only thing that helped Lambeau until we started the cytopoint shots
