Hannah 2.jpg

Miss Hannah is our southern belle from Tennesee. She is a sweet, doe-eyed, white Frenchie girl with an adorable little brown spot over her left eye. She weighs in at 22 lbs and is about three years old. We spotted her on the Nashville Craigs List with her rumpled ear and sad expression. It was clear she was in need of a new lease on life. Her foster mom drove down to Nashville to get her and bring her into the rescue fold.

The gentleman selling her was her second owner. The “papers” the man had from first owner consisted of a piece of notebook paper with her birth date, shot dates, and the fact that she had been bred once and had produced a litter of seven puppies . That paper said she was born in July of 2012. We were told her ear malformation was from a puppy injury, and that a lump she had on her hip had been “scraped” and determined to be innocuous. He said she was three years old.

Her most recent owner had her for six months. He tried to breed her unsuccessfully and thus decided to sell her. When Hannah came into our care, she had fleas, skin allergies, worms, a mass on her right hip, lumps on both of her rear mammary glands and an ear that was so infected/inflamed that it was swollen shut. She was afraid, but very sweet. She was so well behaved during the ride back to Chicago!

Health: Hannah visited our veterinarian shortly after arriving at her foster home. She was given medication for her ear and had a fecal and heartworm check. Fortunately Hannah tested negative for heartworm, but positive for tapeworm. Hannah is now on heartworm and flea medication and has been treated for the tapeworms. Hannah has had several medicated baths and been put on Benadryl for her skin. We believe her skin issues were due to the fleas, as she is no longer scratching and her coat looks so much better!

Hannah has been spayed, had the mass removed from her hip and biopsied, and had two inguinal hernia repairs (luckily the masses on her rear mammary glands were hernias, and not cancer!). The spay revealed that she had had 2 or 3 litters, not one Unfortunately the lump on her hip was a grade 2 mast cell tumor (cancer), however the vet said she got clean margins during the removal. The prognosis against reoccurrence with a completely removed grade II mast cell tumor is very good. Hannah will need to be kept on a regime of 2 Benadryl a day to suppress histamines.

Hannah’s ear is looking very good. It is no longer swollen shut, but will always have a minimal opening. The scar tissue and rumpled appearance of the ear is permanent, however. Her ears will need to be kept clean and may occasionally require treatment with antibiotics.

Temperament: Hannah is a sweet, curious, and loving French Bulldog. She warms up to women very quickly and a bit more slowly with men. She has exhibited NO signs of aggression with anyone. She does not have food aggression. She seems to be fine with other dogs of both sexes. She tends to shy away if another dogs growls or postures. She does not roll over submissively, but just walks away.

Hannah is a bit interested in other dogs. We don’t think she was allowed to interact with other dogs in her previous homes. She has not been tested with cats. She does not appear to be aggressive with toys or food around other dogs, although in her foster home, all dogs are fed separately. She loves to
snuggle with her people. She even likes to snuggle with other dogs. She was snuggled up with one of her foster mom’s boarding dogs (a sweet little beagle girl).

Diet: Hannah is currently on Great Life Limited Ingredient Duck Dry food and is doing very well on it. She gets Delifresh mixed in with her dry food and she eats it right up!

Housebreaking: Hannah knows how to use a doggie door, but even without one, she is very good about urinating and eliminating outside. She has only had a few accidents inside when she arrived, but that was due to her new environment, nerves and tapeworms.

Requirements: Hannah will need to stay on Benadryl twice a day. Her ears may require occasional antibiotic treatment. Her new owners will need to keep a diligent eye on any skin lumps that might develop in the future. She should have a medicated bath every couple of weeks to keep her coat in good shape. She needs to be kept on a higher quality dry food with limited ingredients.

Hannah is good about “doing her business” on or off leash, though on leash it might take a bit longer. Hannah is not an escape artist and tends to stick close to her owner. Hannah walks nicely on a leash. A fenced yard would be desirable, but is not mandatory. Hannah’s exercise requirements are fairly minimal. She does not require more than a short leash walk or a game of fetch. Hannah does have a bit of separation anxiety, but settles quickly.

Hannah would like to be allowed on the couch and or bed to snuggle with her family, and frankly she deserves it after the rough start she has had in life!

Hannah is an easy dog-she is potty trained, gets along with other dogs and is sweet and loving. Her little rumpled ear gives her character and serves as a reminder of how far she has come in a few short weeks. Hannah will make some family very happy…could that family be yours???
