Let me just start and say I'm looking for a bit of advice and help with what Oscar is going through . I will not let him suffer . As of right now he's ok in the day . At night is when I'm seeing I few issues . Would like a few stories if you don't mind sharing . And feel free to pm me with anything question or help and advice.

Sorry it's a little long. If there's spelling mistakes sorry . Not much sleep this week. Worrying about my little buddy

Hi Lisa . My frenchie just reasontlly acting a little different while sleeping. So I was concerned and took him to my vet. The vet said it was allergies. I called bs on it while I was there. He insisted it was. 3 days later his breathing pattern started to worsen. So I took him back. Now my dog loves going for walks and car rides. So he gets excited. And I mean overly excited. Witch caused him to. Pant heavier than normal. The vet is 5 min fro my house. By time we got there his panting was so bad. It was causing great difficulties to breath. It was very scary to see knowing I could calm him down. His temp went up to 107 his eyes glazed over and he couldn't stand. I love my dog like people love there kids. I was tearing up cause I thought I was going to lose my second frenchie . The vet was concerned now . Oh and I forgot to mention that the first time we took him in. I said I could hear weird noises going on in his what I thought sound like they where in his tummy and close to his neck. He still insisted it was allergies. Ok back to it . He was still trying to play it off that it could be a allergie and wanted me to finish the Ned's he perscribed. At that point I got made and voice up. Asked him to take a x-Ray of his tummy and chest. Well it showed that he has a bit of a enlarge heart. So they got sent to specialist . They back with its a collapsed treacea . I was very concerned . So I did some research and figured I'd take him for a third opinion . This specialist had good reviews. He took a couple looks at the x-Rays and called and asked to bring him in. Witch I did want to do cause the last episode. Anyway. He took one look at my dog and listened to the breathing . Asked me some question about breathing and vomiting ang grunting and so on. He said he's almost 100% sure it's brachycephalic airway syndrome . But the only way to know 100% is to scope him. But the worry is he could die just doing that. Cause of the sysdation . And the cost to scope him is $3000 and $2500 for the surgery if it is bsas. He's 6 years old and in good health besides this . The hearth both specialist said doesn't look to be a big issue. So I'm real stuck I love my little guy and won't let him suffer. The hard part is during the day he seems to ok for the most part . I little wessy and grunts a little more than normal. But at night he's realizing there's I issue and his breathing will go from now snoring to breathing long gasps of air with a snore . To a weird sounding I don't know how to explain a small breath witha very broken wine to it . To short breaths to stopping breathing for 15 sec or so to a huge gasp coming out that some times scares him now and will get him to his feet and seem dazed. So it seem like he could die if I do scope or he's dying a slow death if I dont . Witch I won't see him suffer. I have videos of these episodes so we went back tonight and they think it apena . I this that's what they said. And they said as long as it's only 15 sec and his lips and gums rant going blue. Then he's ok for now . But if they get him in asap cause the oxygen . So I don't know what to do. Want to see if this could be posted and see if other have went through this and the out comes. When he 6 month old he got really sick and said seemed like I was going to lose him. They could not figure it out . Called me 7 days later and said come in. I thought it was to say good by . But nope . They whent to see how he was opened the cage and booked to the play area. They could never come up with what it was. Till I found one of my roommate plants hidden. It was eaten. Looked up the plant . It was some sort of tropical plant that is poisiones to animals. And can kill them with in 24 hours. They said if I didn't know when it was eaten it might not have showed up on test if it doesn't stay in the system long . $8200 later and he's still here. I'd just like some input and some stories of other and the dissions they made . And info on good surgeons for this type of thing

Thank you Chris

I am very very sorry to hear that your dog Oscar is not doing well. I assume the vet wants to trim the soft palate?
It can be determined under sedation (I don't believe you need full anesthesia). I have had several dogs go through the procedure. I chose a board-certified surgeon to do the surgery and to keep the dog for one night if they are a 24-hour facility. Otherwise I transfer the dog to a 24-hour hospital for observation. I know of several dogs that developed complications post-surgically and died, usually from an obstructed airway from swelling or aspiration. My dogs all did fine following the surgery. I had their stenotic nares (pinched nostrils) opened up at the same time as the soft palate resections.

However, it sounds like what Oscar has is more complicated. They want to run an endoscope down? I assume they want to check his airway for abnormalities?

With the info you've provided, I think if it were me, I'd move forward with the procedure and surgery. Invasive procedures and surgeries and anesthesia always run a risk. You have to weigh the current quality of life of your dog vs these dangers.
I know... I lost my dog Trevor following complications after a diagnostic procedure, right before Christmas. It does weigh heavy on your heart.. and your pocketbook. But our dogs look to us to take care of them, with the information we have at the time.

I will be praying for Oscar and for you.

thanks for the response . The specialist said . Think about this good before making the decison . Just make sure if I go ahead with the scoping him that I'm prepared that he might not make it through it.

agreed! Poor little guy.. so sorry you and Oscar are going through all this. I also had two bullies with this issue and it was all related to the palate. I would do the scope and also be looking for a new primary vet

I don't have any experience with this, but I just wanted to offer support and agreement with Christine & Erika. Any time a Frenchie goes under, there's a risk that they won't make it, so it's essential that they only go under when they really need it. It sounds like, unfortunately, Oscar really needs it. I'd clarify once more with the vet that sedation is out of the question, and if it is, then anesthesia it is. Keep us updated on Oscar. He'll be in my thoughts!

I am so sorry Oscar is going through all of these health issues. 2 of my English Bulldogs had soft palate reduction surgery done with a laser. With a laser they bleed less, less swelling and trauma.
