Not happy with breeder followup

Hi there! I've been reading for awhile but I finally registered. I hope it's okay if I rant a little?

We recently got our 12 week old Mimi from a local breeder who seemingly has a following and no negative reviews or issues that we could find. We felt even better when we saw her small clean space in the rear of her home she uses for clients and puppy care. Included in the price was the microchip, puppy sets of immunizations and AKC papers. We saw her at 6 weeks and put down deposit and then picked her up at 8 weeks. There were some weird communications issues that gave me the flakey alert (and my husband the scam alert since we already paid her all fees upfront). But I had her and i was in love and it was all good. Until...

So immunizations...we've only had rescues in the past and only dealt with vet offices. However, I know some trained breeder specialists do their own shots so I wasn't concerned.

I had an appt yesterday for her second set of shots made just the day before via text. Showed up at her house on time and messaged her so she could let me in back to the puppy office. No response. Hot Florida sun. Call her. Hotter Florida Sun. No answer. Finally door opens and it is someone else and I ask for the breeder. She isn't there due to some emergency and this woman disappears and comes back out and says she will do the immunizations and microchip. She's in scrubs so I don't question it. I know the breeder's sister and partner also helps so...

She goes back in and I wait for her to open gate to get to back door. Nope. She comes out with the needles and has me sit in the full HOT FLORIDA SUN on front porch and does it!!! Not sterile. No sterile pads at injection site. Just straight to jabbing and not very nicely. When her microchip spot starts gushing blood on Mimi's white fur, she had nothing to clean it up or stop it. Fortunately I had baby wipes in my bag.

I guess I was too stunned and hot mad to say anything. I just wanted to be done with this, get the AKC papers and never go back. Oh guess what? We don't where the AKC papers are.

I am pretty sure i've sounded like a giddy gringa sucker who can be treated this way, because I was so blindly in love with Mimi since I saw her first photo (and I still love her!!!). I got serious in a text though and told her I will pick up the AKC papers Friday. Didn't leave it open to discussion. She finally responds with okay, but no apology for yesterday. She also keeps avoiding my question about birthdate. She never filled out shot card with it and of course, no AKC papers. Nice.

Totally unprofessional. People keep falling in love with Mimi and want to know where I got her from. I'll never give her name now.

IF there are no AKC papers on Friday, what should I do? I am not messing around. She talks about trust all over her dang social media sites and then doesn't give me a reason to trust her now. Professional communication is how you get trust and repeat customers and referrals.

Thanks for listening. I know there are better breeders out there and since then, i've heard about amazing ones here from other frenchie owners i've met in the last 4 weeks. Those are the names I am giving out to people who ask me. I wouldn't give up Mimi, but I wish I went with someone else.

PamNeedsCoffee, I am so glad you love your little Mimi. I bet she will be the best dog you ever had. Frenchies are so special and absolutely adorable. I would keep requesting papers and document your calls, appointments, etc. Up to you how far you decide to pursue it, especially keeping your safety in mind. If you decide to move forward, you can take the "breeder" to small claims court to recoup many of your expenses. Did you get a bill of sale or receipt?

Good luck. You may wind up having no recourse or not wish to pursue, however, the good thing is you are in love with your puppy.

P.S. I would take Mimi to your vet. You don't know if this woman in scrubs gave her shots of water or actual vaccinations. Sounds doubtful and that these people are only about the money.

Pics, please!

What the hell???? I never heard of giving shots on the front porch!!! It sounds like they are lying liars that lie and I will bet there won't be any AKC papers. I'm glad you got a great dog and love Mimi!! I agree with Mavis with taking her to your vet, just to be safe.

We would love to see some pics of Mimi. :)

So sorry you had to go through this. Some people.....geeeezzzz. I would at the least leave a bad yelp review to hopefully prevent others from buying a dog from this breeder. The breeder I got my two from also gives immunizations out of her home. But she gets the serum out of the refrigerator and you watch her fill the needle.

So sorry for this, and it makes me furious. Definitely a broker, they are sorry low down scammers, and are as bad as puppy mill breeders, because they get their pups from them. I just hope your pup stays healthy, as they are usually not from good bloodlines. The main thing is you love your pup, bad I know she will love you, and that's all that matters now.

Unless you want to breed her I wouldn't worry about the papers!
