Hi everyone! I have a 10 week old female frenchie who is having difficulties with potty training. Her issue is being outside alone! She doesn't like to be outside by herself. If she is, she will whine and yelp at the door (sitting on the door ledge) for 90% of the time. We have been trying to get her used to being outside by herself and she will stop whining at times but she certainly does not like being without her human family. We are using the bells on the door to potty train her but if she doesn't like to be outside on her own, I'm not sure that will be much help! I believe this is hindering her potty training.

Has anyone had similar issues or tips for my baby/me? :)

Bulldog = human ... It is a trait of the breed they are very attached to their human and do not like being alone ... They are also referred to as velcro-dog and shadow --- she will follow you everywhere in the home. Also at 10 weeks i would not leave her alone--

Ditto! 10 weeks is just too young to be alone. Make the time and effort to be out there with her!

I agree with the others. When she goes out to potty you should be right there with her. When she goes outside you praise her. That is how she will learn that she is supposed to go outside.

10 weeks is to young to expect a puppy to go out to "do her business" by herself. She needs you to go out with her, remind her what you want her to do ( go potty.., go potty). and reward her with lavish praise when she actually does it ( What a good girl, potty outside!). This is how she will learn. My female is now 16 months old and will run out to do her business without me - sometimes- other times she wants me to be out there with her - but it took a long time before that happened. She would not go out without someone until she was almost a year old. Was not fun in the winter at all - but that's part of owning/training a pet. Good luck with you baby, she will get it eventually just be consistent and praise, praise, praise!

Also -- forgot to mention - theft! These babies are sought after to be to stolen right fro peoples yard

Yep, I am paranoid about my baby being stolen. I am always in view of the backyard. Thanks for the advice :)

Here's what worked for me. These little ones can be really stubborn with the potty training so I make sure that when I'm training I have a container of their food outside and when they go potty outside I give them a piece of food as a reward for going outside. It took a little bit, but Batty caught on pretty quick. I would say by 6 months he was fully potty trained. Ollie was faster at 5 months.

I agree that 10 weeks is quite young for a frenchie to be left unattended outside. She will need praise from you when she does her business and if you are not there when it happens then it won't do much good. You could try crate training her or an exercise pen with pee pads.
