Hey everyone! I have a 9 week old female frenchie who is weighing in at 5.6 lbs. She seems a bit slim to me, her ribs show sometimes. Is she at a healthy weight or should I be concerned? She had her 8 week check up before going home with us and nothing in the paperwork shows concern about her weight, but I still wanted to ask you guys. Thanks for reading!

Welcome to FBN! She is adorable, I’ve no experience with a Frenchie puppy so I’m going to tag davidh ... he’ll have some insight

She is a little thin. She needs to be fed three times a day. I like a pup that is a little puggy, but not fast. You should not see their ribs, and should only feel them with light to moderate pressure. If their stool is runny, they are getting too much food, it should be like a firm soft serve poop. Once she gets to 7 months of age you can go to twice a day on feeding, but the same total amount as the three times a day. Their poop at that age should be fairly firm. Plus at this time you can go to adult food.

Any recommendations on how to get her to eat more then? I’ve been feeding her the Royal Canin French bulldog puppy food, and I’ve topped it with some broth before but that made no difference. She has no interest in eating.

Royal isn’t a good food... lots of fillers. Look into one of these high quality kibbles.

AS Christine said, Royal Canin isn't that good of a food. Try using Feta cheese as a topper, or Stella and Chewy's free dried food as a topper or to help with weight gain, some Bil jac, it comes frozen. Bil jac isn't that good by itself, but it is OK for a topper.

It’s pretty normal to see a slight outline of the ribs on some frenchies. My pup has always had a bit of rib showing on the end. Mind you he can pack food away and only seem to get more muscular. If she won’t eat then I would suggest changing foods or going raw/fresh . (That wasn’t an option for us as our dog has too manyallergies) once your eating Problem is solved and she has no signs of stomach issues then a little is okay. If she isn’t hungry and is that skinny you need to do a little digging and make adjustments . We dealt with stomach problems for the first year until we switch to an insect only food .

Our herniated puppy went on Victor Hi Pro-Plus after her surgery and she plumped up and has maintained really good health ever since. Cannot recommend it enough.
