Our boy Shaka has been having soft stool movements. This morning it was runny, but only a very little bit of stool. Later in the AM he had another movement and it was just soft, but I heard him farting as his stool was coming out. I can tell his stomach isn't normal right now.

Something to note is I mixed his food with another brand to acclimate him to the new food last night for his dinner. I'm pretty sure this had an adverse effect on his system.

I didn't feed him anything all day. Just trying to keep him hydrated.

Today he wasn't himself. Didn't want to play at all. Kind of lethargic and barely drinking anything at all. No vomiting though. Slept most of the day today.

He kind of snapped out of it when my wife and daughter came home. Almost like his old self.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I did call the vet and they asked if I wanted to bring him in, but I figured I would wait 24 hours, monitoring him before taking him in. Again, he is not vomiting and hasn't had a stool movement since this AM.

I would guess that it is the new food you are introducing. Are you transitioning slowly? (1/4 new to 3/4 old and so on) Or it could just be that some ingredient in the new food doesn't agree with him. If it is high in liver, etc. it could give him the runs. A little white rice in his food can help firm things up too. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would have to say I probably added too much new food.

He's feeling better this AM. Moving around more and more vocal.

Should I continue with the added new food or just stick to the old?

When you switch kibble, you should do a slow transition from old to new over a period of time. So the first day it would be 75% old with 25% new for 2 or 3 days, then 50% old with 50% new for another 2 or 3 days and then 75% new with 25% old for another 2 or 3 days and then 100% new.

Agreed with above and you could also add a little canned pumpkin to the food as well

Ok, I'll keep that in mind.

I did do about 25% new to 75% old this am. Hopefully this transition goes better from here on out.

He is feeling much, much better today. Back to his old self.

Another question, is it good to give the pup pedialyte when he wasn't really eating or drinking anything and having the runs?

What does this accomplish?

adding 1-2 teaspoons of canned pumpkin in you dog’s food helps the digestion process. Canned pumpkin has a large quantity of dietary fiber, and beta-carotene.. which the body converts to vitamin A. It will absorb the excess water present in the stool. This makes your dog’s stool more firm and results can be seen within a few hours.

Make sure its just canned pumpkin and not pie filling!!! and also don't over do it. Only 1-2 teaspoons mixed in
