We have had Louie for two weeks now, and most things are going well. We have noticed that he seems very leery of new people, and in the last few days he has begun growling and barking at new people who approach. Today he actually lunged toward someone from my arms while growling and barking. He's only ten weeks old, and I would love some suggestions on correcting this behavior while he is young, and before it becomes a habit. We want to really socialize him and be able to take him to a lot of places with us. Thanks for the help and here is a picture of Louie!

don't hold him but do have cobtrol, he cannot be in front of you when meeting and you correct him if not social like growling or trying to hide! ....he is at that socialize age and needs to be out and about, corrected, petted, walked, meeting new and unusual people places and things....people should pet him after he has smelled them and rub under the chin, not over the head...watch Ceaser..dog whisperer...they are free at library or tape from animal planet...bullies will get too assertive and insecure if not handled correctly!!!

I agree with Willowrun, keep correcting him and when he doesn't growl, then praise him and let them pet him, not before. Most Frenchie pups love everyone and this is a little strange for a Frenchie.

Thank you both very much. After thinking about it, I have been holding him most of the times it has happened. I will try having him on the leash more. I do watch Ceaser, and we try to break his focus him when he gets like that.
David, one of the reasons we got a frenchie was their love of people. To be honest, this behavior has me a little concerned. Do y'all think it's something that can be fixed?

Gidget will sometimes do that if she is overly excited. Barking mostly. When we got the puppies and took them out I would approach people, especially with small children, and ask them if they would pet them. My 'boys' are 6' and 5'8"....
trishkidd24 - did you ever get past that with Marge?
