Would like to here what allergy meds people are using that are working, have tried the apoquel, seems to do ok. But after reading the trail studies. It scares me ! I would love to get my baby relief
Thank you

I have tried Benadryl, Zyrtec and apoquel. The apoquel has by far worked the best.

We trried allergy shots on Jake for about 1 1/2 years with little improvement. He is currently on Apoquel. Stella was on Atopica and I couldn't take how it upset her stomach. The vet wanted to give her an appetite stimulant and pepcid. I recently switched her to Apoquel as well. She is doing great on it. I wish I could control their allergies with antihistamines alone but the allergies are just so severe and they would end up with secondary infections.

I have been feeding platinum performance allergy & skin for three weeks now and she appears to be doing good the paw chewing has been getting less and less, I also feed her a ant-histamine daily. But am going to try and wean her off the anti-histamine in couple weeks to see if still need. I will give update. I also have been using platinum ortho-chon HA for health joints.(Lexus has bad hips) for three yrs now and she has done very well on this product. I've attached link if anyone interest in checking out PS: this company is owned and operated by vetrinarians... Dog Vitamins | Cat Supplements | Canine and Feline Formulas

looks similar to NuVet products which I have used ... it is possible that the allergens are environmental? Try wiping him off after being outside and see if it helps. I have to wipe my guy during spring and fall or he will scratch himself raw... his paws are the worst

Twiggy takes Apoquel. We have tried various things, and it works better than anything else for her, hands down.

What is Apoquel, and are there any downsides or side effects?

Apoquel is a non steroidal allergy medicine. We have many many dogs in it where I work and I have yet to see a negative reaction.

We are giving JLO Temaril P for her allergies and it seems to help her.

I would try to get away with just using Zyrtec ( = cetirizine = Reactine ) 10 mg daily for a dog 15-39 pounds. It's an antihistamine with almost no side effects. All the other drugs mentioned have quite severe side effects with long term use:
Atopica= cyclosporin, also used for transplant patients to prevent rejection, causes major suppression of immune system
Temaril P= phenothiazine antihistamine ( sedating ) plus prednisolone- the prednisolone suppresses immune system plus can cause cataracts, diabetes, osteoporosis etc
Apoquel= JAK inhibitor, biologic therapy- long term follow up study over a year showed 6.7% rate of serious side effects according to monograph, 4% were cancer, 2.7% other serious illnesses.
