Hello everyone! I'm new to this French bulldog forum thing! We have a Frenchie that is about 1 year and 5 months old and her name is Kali. Kali keeps getting infections of her anal glands. Our vet has tried two different antibiotics which seem to help for two to three weeks after but then butt scooting and bam another infection. The vet is in the process of sending a culture to the lab to see what we are specifically dealing with to better treat. Kali has been on a sensitive stomach diet. We feed her blue buffalo sensitive stomach for small dogs..turkey and potato. She has been on this same food for a little over a year. I have been doing research and see where you should cut out all grains..I see where this includes potatoes. Have just started to look for a different food to see if this would help. Does anyone have this problem with re-occurring anal gland infections? Also looking for the best grain free food for our princess!! Thanks so much!

Supposedly a high fibre diet is good- If your dog is on a low fibre diet such as raw diet,I read somewhere you can give your dog 1/2 cup coconut water mixed with 1 tablespoon psyllium husk (Metamucil) every 2nd meal for one or two days to help express the anal sac during a bowel movement. Or you can just try any dog food with over 4% fiber.

Some dogs may need a surgery to remove the anal sacs.

We were having this issue with one of my bulldogs... we started with Metamucil and then went to adding pure canned pumpkin to every meal and it has really worked.
Once you get the infection clear, be sure to keep the area clean and give the extra fiber... see if it helps
