Louis is 11 and has been on Metacam for about a year. He has started limping badly- vet is thinking about changing to a different medication. Any success stories with anything? We added Cosequin. also.

We never gave our pug prescription medication for his arthritis, but according to the canine physiotherapist we saw, she recommended Cetyl-M. It works better than regular glucosamine, as its combo with the fatty acids makes it more effective. We were told to give it a good month before we saw any improvement, but it helped out dog a *lot*.

However, in his old age, the arthritis seemed to take over and the Cetyl-M wasn't of much help. Perhaps a new medication plus the supplement would be helpful? Good luck... Poor Louis. :(

I know a good many dogs that take Rimadyl for arthritis and do well on it. My Pekignese was on Metacam and Phycox joint supplement and did pretty well.

I have also seen Adequan injections help a number of dogs. They do one a week for a month, then one injection a month.

Our Bulldog had severe arthritis in her spine and we used Gabapitin with Tramadol and Deramxx (sparingly)

I give Remy monthly Adequan injections for his shoulder arthritis. He also takes Gabapentin for nerve pain.

Gabapentin was the drug I was going to suggest. Hope you find something that gives your baby some relief.

Thanks for the responses. I'm checking into changing his meds today and will ask about the Adequan injections.
