Hi guys! I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations about any harnesses that they love. My pup is a tugger and no harness I've found has made it any easier to control him

Piggybacking onto this thread: my pup HATES his harness and scratches at it when it’s on and runs away when it’s time to put it on which is discouraging. I’ve had better success with a collar but he’s still not a fan and I am not willing to use a collar long term for choking reasons.

Did anybody have a similar experience, any specific non-irritating harness you can recommend or any advice?

To be clear, there have been no skin issues related to it that I’ve noticed, I’m assuming he’s just not used to the feeling and is being stubborn. He has not been a real fan of walks, he uses it more as a time to forage cigarette butts and other non edibles he finds along the way.

This is the style of harness I am using, it is a step in with Velcro and breathable mesh fabric. I put it on rather loose too.

We use the Easy Walk at the moment.

However, we put it on "upside-down" with attachment above the shoulders instead of at the chest where it is designed to be.

When we put it on correctly, he was able to back out of the harness at times.

I have found that front attaching harnesses are MUCH more effective for pulling. If the dog tugs or pulls, the action turns him/her around to face you - and stops the pulling. I currently use a Ruffwear; it is well made - though I am always on the lookout for a better harness. For some reason my dog is scared to put his head through the loop of the harness, and I have to put a treat in front of it for him to put his head through. Once he puts his head through, he doesn’t mind the harness at all. I think he has just figured out a way to get an extra treat from me.
