Hello all!

I am looking for some training suggestions to cut out Nacho's biting. Nacho has never ever been aggressive and his biting also isn't in an agressive manner but sometimes he nips a little too hard. I am afraid he will nip at my young nieces and nephews a little too hard and hurt them. Whenever Nacho gets really rowdy and playfull he just opens that mouth and nibbles on anything and everything close by. When he does this we put something he can have in his mouth and we have put him on the floor and sternly told him no and then ignored him. What else can we try to help cut this behavior out? Thank you!

Realize that biting is normal canine behavior when they play with their canine friends. But when they play with us it's a no no which is going against their natural instincts. It will take time to train him not to bite when playing. My best advise is when you want to play give him a toy to bit on while your playing. Anytime he gets you make a loud noise and tell him no and immediately stop playing. Good luck. I'm trying to teach my husband to not play rough with hands but it's impossible. He never listens and my pup gets me sometimes too. I'm healing my hand at the moment. He bit me the other day.

I'm going through something similar with Jax. He just turned 1 yesterday and we got him in June at about 10 1/2 weeks and he had never shown any aggressive behavior whatsoever but about a week or so ago he brought a stick into the house and when my BF tried taking the stick away, he got aggressive and bit him and drew blood. We sternly told him NO and I think he had known he did something wrong. Last night he grabbed toilet paper and was starting to get a little aggressive when I tried to take it away. I'm trying to teach him "drop it" by giving him a little treat when he has something he shouldn't. The last thing I want is an aggressive dog!

Agreed .... Puppy behavior, correct with a firm now he it happens or redirect with a toy

Thank you all so much! I will give all the ideas a try!

Pups will be pups and love to bite and chew. Just keep doing what you are doing, by offering him a chew toy and he will eventually grow out of it.
