Could this be allergies?

Whenever I scratch Hotchkiss on his sides he always "itches" with his back paws when I do it. I had alway thought he was just ticklish but now I'm thinking maybe he is itchy from allergies. The only sign I've seen from him is redness between his toes and the vet didn't seem worried about it. Do you think it could be allergies instead?

Most dogs just really enjoy a good scratch.
However Id keep an eye on the redness between his toes as this can be a sign of a growing yeast population.
