Hi Everyone! It has been awhile since I have been on here :) I do come on every once in awhile to check on how everyone and their pups are doing. I do have a question regarding adolescence....Ralphy is now 8 months old

It seems that a switch has been flicked overnight in Ralphy - he is not neutered and is now no longer allowed to be at daycare until he is neutered as he has to be separated from some of the dogs and then proceeds to squeal his little head off - I guess he loves the ladies...

My neighbors have guests visiting them and they have a female german shepherd. When Ralphy sees her on the other side of the fence he goes ballistic, really it sounds like someone is killing him.

And then yesterday we went for our usual walk and he was pulling and wild every time he saw another dog or person when the usual "never mind" would deter him from even giving a care about them and he would never pull...

Is this a phase?!?! Does it ever end?

Thanks for your advice :)

Do you have any plans on getting him neutered?

Our vet suggested that neutering him shortly after one year is beneficial - my husband doesn't want to do it at all for whatever stupid man reasoning that he has. I wanted to have it done as soon as possible to ensure no aggression issues, which he still does not have, and the vet didn't see aggression being an issue, but am thinking that I may have to have it done sooner. I just get anxious about the whole ordeal... our vet is wonderful, he deals with most of the frenchies in our area, but it makes me very uneasy about the whole process.

My bf seems to share that opinion. Our Moses has not been neutered either. He is now 1,5. He is acting decent and no issues with ladies or with aggression. He just likes to hump after his evening meal, furniture and our stuff is out of limit, but he's got a big teddy bear ;)

Hudson will be 2 in November and isn't neutered. He's never had a problem with the typical neuter issues, but I do remember a pretty big change in his attitude around a year. That was the only time he ever destroyed things and he was a big pain in the butt. It could be the age.

Personally, I would have him neutered but I spay and neuter everything LOL. It will be less stressful for him if you aren't going to breed him. He is a teenager so acting out is pretty normal. Just be firm and consistant and he will come around.

Yep hormones are going crazy. Just keep on him and continue with the training, he will get through it. As fare as neutering, I agree on the waiting until around a year of age. The sex hormones play a big role in growing and maturing properly and if neutered too soon, it can affect that. Also works the same way for the bitches too.

Yup. I agree with the above. I recall Mo around that age. He was a little rascal! Stealing our stuff and show them to us as a trophy and run away. He did all sorts of crazy things, acting like a proper teenager. He also tried to climb up in the pack hierarchy and few times I had to wrestle with him to get it sorted :)
That behavior went away in few months, pretty much as sudden as it started. Good luck! It will get easier.
Your baby is growing up :)

Oh my! Banksy is 5 months. Is this what I have to look forward to?!!?

I concur with the 'teenager phase'. When we went to puppy classes, we were warned that, "You'll think your dog is doing fine, behaving well, then BOOM! All of a sudden they'll turn into a nightmare. Not listening, defiant, wild, etc. They're hitting adolescence."

My pups are almost 8 months now, and I think we're going through this right now. I'm just riding out the storm. LOL Thing is, I have two Frenchies (siblings from the same litter), so they definitely ramp each other up. I wonder what they'd be like if each was on their own... So I've got double trouble! :D

Titan is 9 months and he's became a terror. He has chewed up my broom, the toy basket, etc! Definitely a teenager phase!

Yep, around 8-10 mths they start to push the envelop and see what rebellion they can get away with

He's definitely a teenager! I got Wally neutered at a year old because he's a bigger Frenchie and I wanted him to have the proper strength to be able to hold up his large head. :D
