Hi there,

Just joined this forum I have two frenchies my male is almost two. About four months ago he had a bad ear infection which caused him to have a head tilt which has never straightened out. Has anyone else had this issue? I have followed all of the vets instructions and he was only cleared about three weeks ago. I just want to be sure I am doing everything I can to help. Secondly, he has pulled a ligament on his back leg which is also not repairing, this has been for about a month. He has seen the vet, just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Thank you so much!

Welcome!!

It could be a deep ear infection and may need a stronger antibiotic.

Limp... rest and leashed walks only.. no running or jumping. Get some Movoflex to help

Thank you! The vet did take him off the antibiotics, but his head still being so tilted worries me.

I will make sure to stick to leash walks. I appreciate the help!

I'm not sure what you use for general ear maintenance, but I love EcoEars Dog Ear Cleaner and use it weekly for happy, healthy ears.

I have never tried Ecoears I will have to look into this! Thank you so much for your help.

I use Zymox for weekly ear cleanings. I have also heard about colloidal silver being good for ears but have never tried it.

For the limping, have you had him on crate rest since the incident? If not, crate rest, carry him in/out for the bathroom if possible. No stairs, no jumping on or off furniture.

I used to use Zymox for weekly ear cleanings and liked it, but found it a bit expensive. My dog was really scratching her ears during the summer due to allergies, and I was spraying in Betadine as well as wiping out with either 20% vinegar/80% witch hazel solution,or with 5 drops oil of cloves, 5 drops tea tree oil in 2 oz witch hazel. It didn't seem to improve until I wiped her ears with a cosmetic round with Manuka honey ( > 15 ) for 2 days, then resumed to cleaning daily with the vinegar solution on a cosmetic round . I haven't tried colloidal silver yet, but I imagine it would be good put into a spray bottle. I made my own colloidal silver to have as backup with a Rube Goldberg setup made from some wires with alligator clips, 2 or 3 9 volt batteries,a vase, and a couple of 1oz 0.999 silver bars. You can also buy colloidal silver at a health food store.

I wonder if he had vestibular damage and is off balance. That could be permanent from before, and not an ongoing treatable problem.

Yes, the vet had told me that he was suffering from vertigo when it first happened and that his head may never repair. I sometimes worry when it is more tilted than usual that his ear is infected again. However when I do his regular cleaning nothing seems to come out.

You could also try 1/2 teaspoon daily of Actiflex-4000 https://www.bigdweb.com/product/acti+flex+solution+32+oz.do?sortby=bestSellers&refType=&from=Search&ecList=6&ecCategory= plus turmeric plus raw virgin coconut oil all mixed in with his food to help with his leg healing. ( In addition to the Movoflex ).
