I've noticed that the ear tips of my female frenchie are folding back. She is 9 weeks old. Will the stand back up? Should I be concerned? When do you take them for their first vet visit if the breeder provides shots for first 10 weeks?

Hey my frenchie Fish had the same thing happen to him, they will stand back up within time (3-4 weeks) in my expierience. I believe it has to do with the cartalidge in their ears not being fully developed yet. Hope this helps. Crabberx

That's what I'm reading online but wanted to check in with the experts. It just started a week ago.

I don't know about the ear thing since it didn't happen to us, but about the vet visit: we picked Hudson up at 11 weeks and the breeder had done shots up until then. He went in for his 12 week checkup/shots/deworming the next week. So, when s/he hits 12 weeks that's when I would take him/her in.

Hi there. I have heard of the ear tips flopping but it didn't happen to billy when he came home. We took billy to the vets within a couple of days of having him home just for peace of mind really and they gave us some really useful tips to. X

She is soooo cute! :) I miss my baby being so little!
Don't worry about a thing...cause every little thing's gonna be alright :D Seriously now, they flop, they flip, but eventually they gonna stand up. It has something to do with the calcium intake and the fact that it is a high priced commodity in her body right now with all her bones growing and her teeth...teething :) Maybe you could ask your vet for a calcium supplement but don't worry about the ears 'cause they gonna stand right up.
Our bat eared princess alternated ears up/down but eventually they stood up at about...3 months.
So..."Don't worry about a thing...cause every little thing's gonna be alright!" ;)

I would take her in to be checked out by a Veterinarian. Not because of her ears, but just because it's a good idea to have a Vet look over any new dog or puppy that you get. :)

First vet appointment should be within a week of you bringing your pup home... not sure on the ears, as I got Cheli when he was 8 months old

I have never experienced any issues with the ears. I agree that the vet check should be within the 1st week. They will examine your pup and make sure it is completely healthy. My vet always does an x-ray of the spine as frenchies are known to have issues in their backs.

I'd take a dog the very next day and have it checked by my own vet. What is folding back? Do you me over because that depends on the size of the dogs ears.

Titans ears were almost completely in half. We go to a vet who is a french bulldog specialist who breeds & shows frenchies, also has 12 of her own I believe? She said it's very common when they're teething... :)

The ears should come up with time, and the breeder should have given you a shot schedule and should have required you to take your pup to the vet for a checkup right after you received her. She should be ready for her last puppy shots at 12 weeks of age, if the breeder did them at 6 and 9 weeks.

Finley was born on 12/07. His ears were BOTH standing up until about 2 weeks ago when one decided to totally flop over when he woke up one morning. The vet checked the cartlidge which isn't injured. The vet did say his cartlidge might not be strong enough but I just fear it will never go back up. I've been giving him some milk to help build muscle and supplement the calcium I believe he is losing to teething. Any further insight? :-)

I wouldn't give him milk at all. If he is on a quality food, that should be all he needs.

He eats Hills Science Diet Puppy Food...

I'm just afraid of them not going back up :-/

Milk is not good for dogs. I wouldn't worry too much about them coming back up. Seems like from what I am reading, it's not very uncommon for them to droop for a little while when they are young like that.

Plain yogurt or kefir is a good solution for calcium, much better dairy sources than milk. It also might be worth switching him off science diet..

We have switched Bailey and Oscar over to Fromms puppy food. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but Bailey's ears are straight up once again. Their stool is much more firm and not quite as fragrant and they aren't as gassy either.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
