Hi all. I am curious if anyone is using this food from Italy. I have a GSD and a Frenchie and bought it because my GSD is extremely picky. The GSD loves the food and the Frenchie has been on it for about three weeks. I have to tell you the Frenchie has never had such tight stools and so little, non-existent actually, gas and belching.

I later found out this food is on TruthAboutPetFoods "Most Trusted List" which is a highly reputable website. Dog Food Advisor is 5 Stars.

I am using the Wild Boar Grain Free and have a bag of Herring Grain Free next.

Never tried, it or have never ween it, must not be in this area. Let us know how it goes. Sounds like so far so good.

never heard of it.... please keep us posted on how they are doing

Both are doing amazing on it. I actually bought the food in PA at a very nice store called The Dining Dog in Allentown. We were coming back from a college visit and stopped in. The owners of the store raved about it. It has a very strong meaty smell, maybe that is why the picky dog likes it so much.

that is only about 40 mins from me, might have to go check them out

Sounds like an excellent choice! I am really starting to see many international brands coming up with some great lines of food.

Both Mike Segman (Dog Food Advisor) and Susan Thixton (TruthAboutPetFood) are two of the most knowledgeable in the pet food industry, and taught me all I now know about it.

Hi,
I breed and show my dogs. And worry very much about health and what they are eating. I have been feeding Farmina since it became available here in the States. My dogs love it,they are in great condition and stools are great. GMO free!!! I often wonder about the raw feeders, our food in the states is not GMO free. I think you raw feeders should give this a try!!! I am a fan as you can tell. Linda..JellyBellies Frenchies.

Why should raw feeders give this a try? No offense but kibble is still processed food. Everything that can stay good for over a year I dont consider real food. Fresh meat and vegetables/fruits are whole foods and unprocessed.
Dont get me wrong, there is really crappy and good quality kibble out there but if someone has to pick between processed/unknown and fresh food which one would you go for?

I went through the raw phase with the GSD and he did terrible on raw. I am pretty experienced with animals and very good in math so I was able to balance things very well and he suffered on raw. He did so bad. I had him on a very good kibble and he improved quite a bit but he started turning away from it. This Farmina food is not like other kibbles. The Italians seem to have an edge in dry food from what I can see.

I agree in general fresh food is ideal but when you have a family and aging parents and a dog that does not do well on raw food, you do what you need to.

My Frenchie had bad gas on everything, canned, kibble, raw, cooked but not on this dry food.

The only downside is that is smells really strong. The Boar smells like dried game meat and the Herring is the strongest smelling fish kibble I have ever had the pleasure of smelling.

Not trying to get into too much detail but he probably had a sensitivity to the protein source or something else went wrong. I have never heard of a dog do bad on a raw diet, infact we daily help sick dogs to get better with help of a species appropriate ,fresh diet. Children and elderly dont have to be worried: the majority of raw pet food you can buy is pasteurized = no bacteria like Salmonella,E.Coli etc.

Anyways, this thread is not about raw or what is the best. Its about this specific kibble I havent heard about so I cant say anything about it.

Raw feeders never hear the bad stories (or don't want to) like obstructions, torn palates, bone deformities...etc. trust me these stories exist with raw fed dogs. You didn't understand what I said about children and aging parents, they require time and care so I didn't have the time anymore to find and prepare foods for the GSD. Anyway, he did terrible on raw and he stopped walking on his hocks when I stopped.

You are right this isn't a raw feeding thread....so no arguments about it.

I work at an award winning, well known health pet store and like I said we help very sick animals on a daily base.
Raw feeding is nothing everybody can 'just do' you have to have instructions and know somebody thats knowledgable in this field. Edit : or do a lot of research yourself on proper sites.

I have heard the raw feeding cult for years and sadly many are just misinformed but I don't want to argue.

Please just remove your comments and go preach elsewhere. You are talking to an Ivy league graduate in science to the MS level and don't need a lecture.

Did you know that cooked animal protein is actually more digestible at the amino acid level than raw meat?

This is incorrect! Kibble also take up to 12 hours to be digested, most nutrients are being destroyed in the cooking process so synthetic minerals and vitamins have to be added otherwise it wouldnt be more than sugar! I am not going to into detail because I am not forcing anybody to do anything and I believe everybody should do their own research and do whatever they think is proper.
This forum has been very kind and welcoming and there has been no drama here so I would like to keep it that way.
:)
I know what I know and not only do I believe in it no I actually see the positive results every day.

I am studying canine /feline nutrition and my boss, mentor and friend has been working as a pet nutritionist for over 10 years and has been awarded many times (also has his own TV show and writes articles for big pet magazines). I am not trying to sound cocky,I just want to say I am not just making all of this up.

Anyways ,you have yourself a great evening :) And i wish you all the best with whatever food choice you make.

You started it. Read up on cooked animal protein vs raw. Read some real science.

By the way here is some more real science from one of the finest schools in Europe. Good read that shows what the "species appropriate" diet really is.

Carbs were key in wolves' evolution into dogs - Los Angeles Times

Like I said have yourself a great night. I am not going to read any of this because like I said I know what I know and see every day. Also my boss actually did study in Europe and the US/Canada.
I almost have a feeling this thread was used as a marketing opportunity of this food by somebody working for the manufacturer.

Like I also mentioned before this forum has been drama free and everybody has the right to express their opinion but please watch how you word it. ;)

Drama, drama, drama! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and can essentially feed their dog whatever they want. Some people swear by feeding raw and others don't. Just leave it at that and hopefully everyone does their research on whatever food they are feeding and everyone should feed whatever they feel comfortable with!

Exactly, to each his or her own. It is obvious that everyone here wants to feed what works and best for them and their frenchie(s). We are a group to lift each other up, even if it is not the exact choice of our own.
