Hey all!

Thank you all again for the kind words and welcoming us back on my last post! I thought I replied to everyone but in case I didn't, it's much appreciated!

Anyway, I'm probably just being an overly neurotic Frenchie Mom as usual, lol, but I had a question. Ella is three and about a month ago, I started noticing her breathing was faster/raspier than normal when she's resting and she swallows a lot rather noisily when she's trying to go to sleep. It's about 20 breaths a minute - just seems a little different than it used to be and of course it's worrying me. The first thing I did was take her to the vet, who checked her heart and lungs and said she's fine, so I'm guessing they would've heard it if there was anything serious going on. She does have fairly wide nares, but her nose seems a bit congested too even when we play. No kennel cough or anything either - could it just be allergies? It's a bad time of year around here with the pollen and we know she's highly allergic to most of the yard, lol. She is also currently in heat, and it did coincide with that.

She had a full blood workup two months ago, and was on ketoconazole and temaril P per our old vet for about a month for the yeast too, just FYI. Could this have anything to do with that?

davidh .. insight for heat related question.

Have you tried give Claritin or Zyrtec for his allergies?

Nicole G sorry I'm late, but it does sound like it's allergies.

If she's had a bad yeast infection in the past it's probably due to the environmental +/- food allergies. I would try to get her off carbs as much as possible- best would be a frozen raw prey diet with adding your own krill oil and sea kelp and as much steamed vegetables as you want. Also try washing your dog with a ketoconazole/chlorhexidine shampoo (eg. curaseb, ketohex) weekly in the summer. If the diet doesn't seem to work for allergies, try having your vet give a cytopoint injection, which is a lot less immunosupressant compared to prednisone ( in temeril ). Ketoconazole (antifungal) is hard on the liver, so you want to make these changes to reduce yeast infections so you don't have to give her that again.
