Hi,

Does anyone have ideas on storing dry food ? Like the 25lb bag?

Id freeze whatever you're not using.

Even if you use a container, every time you open the lid oxygen flows in and remember that antioxidants usually only last 28 days max (some studies even show 14 days) & once the antioxidants are gone, the oxygen starts to break down the nutrients & oils turn rancid. = food no good anymore.

Id just buy a smaller bag, which you can then fill into a container. (& dont forget to wash the container once empty).

Freezing is also helpful for storage mite prevention in the home. My dogs have allergies, so when I was feeding kibble we took all precautions.

OMG I have so much to learn !

I don't freeze mine..... but I also have 2 dogs so the food doesn't last long. I don't pour the kibble into the container either. I put the bag in the container with a clip on it

We bought a container that has an air tight sealing lid, and its on wheels so its great. We put the bag in the container and keep it in the pantry and it rolls out.

We got it from Pet Smart!

Here is an example of one but there is lots of others IRIS Airtight Pet Food Container | Storage & Scoops | PetSmart

I like this idea,, I think if I keep it in the bag clipped and then in the bin should be ok ? I don't know about freezing 20lbs of food 😏

That's what I do and it works for us.
How long does it take you to go through a bag though? We go through one large bag every month it seems....So I'm fine with the storage plan we currently have in place. If it takes you guys a while to go through a bag maybe a medium sized bag would be better?

When we were getting allergy tests done, our vet was very strict on this one. He asked us to keep the bag as cold as possible - if not frozen - and only have max 4 weeks supply at a time. We ended up only buying bags that lasted for 2 weeks. Not the most cost effective way but at the time we were trying anything to help his skin.

Same here. My freezer isn't big enough anyway.

I have a puppy and we only buy small bags that last about 2 weeks.

I think just do the best you can. There was no way we could freeze even 2 weeks of kibble as our freezer is tiny, so we kept it cold in the garage. Best we could do without having to start buying a chest freezer!

I guess I will stick to the smaller bags, I rather her food be fresh then save a few dollars, thanks 👍🏻

I have a container, but I only buy 12-13 lbs bags and they last about a month ... I have two to feed. I also keep the food in the bag it comes in, roll it closed within the sealed container...
