Hi all! My 11 month old Norman has a bit of issue with his food. He currently is on Fromm Lamb and Lentil. He was eating the pork&peas but I noticed he had a bit of yeast in his ears and eye-tears. I took him to the vet and got his ear drops for the yeast. My vet suggested trying a kangaroo diet (?) in the winter time to determine what exactly he is allergic too in his food. His ears were fine for a while but I'm noticing he is starting to itch them again.. any suggestions on other food choices I could try? As far as I'm aware, a lot of the time eye-tears are from the dog not being able to digest something in their food properly?. And I know bulldogs in general sometimes have a hard time digesting animal proteins as well. I've looked at the other Fromm foods and they all either contain some sort of chicken or potato, which I know can be part of the problem too. Any dry food suggestions I can try before I take norm back into the vet?
Thanks!!:)

Fromm Four Star Pork and Applesauce has no potatoes, although all Fromm products contain a lot more carbohydrates than do other brands such as Orijen. A lot of members here buy frozen raw dog food, but I haven't gone that route yet, so hopefully someone can fill you in more about that route. I'm using both Orijen Regional Red and Six Fish, and my dog's only problem is licking her paws. For a yeast infection in ear you can buy Zymox otic drops and use that dripped inside ear daily for a couple of weeks, then once weekly. In between you can wipe his ears out with a cleanser on a cosmetic pad. I use two ounces of witch hazel with 5 drops of oil of cloves and 5 drops of tea tree oil for the daily cleaning of outer ear, since zymox is so expensive. I clean my dog's paws by dipping them into a bowl with a weak solution of povidone and water, but it hasn't really reduced her paw licking. I also give her an antihistamine such as cetirizine 10mg daily. I clean out her wrinkles which get dirty from the tears with daily malacetic wipes, and every few days a wash with Curaseb shampoo ( or similar ) on a cosmetic pad and then wiped with another wet cosmetic pad. I used to put desitin ointment on her wrinkles but found I didn't need it with this regimen. I also wipe her paws every time she comes in from outside, and wipe her bum if she's had a poo.

I forgot to mention that I've found Malacetic wipes to be expensive, so I made my own solution with 2% Boric Acid, 2% Acetic Acid and put some in the empty Malacetic wipes container with some cut up paper towels. These bulldogs can get quite expensive, so you want to save your pennies where you can.

I went through trying MULTIPLE dry food brands and proteins before I switched Jax to raw. Jax has many environmental allergies and some food issues but feeding raw has helped a lot.

Great info provided... i feed Fromm grain free pork and peas

I feed Dexter raw now due to allergies. He needs to have minimal ingredients as he's reactive to everything, so it's the only way I can control what's actually in his food. He can't have any carbs, root veg, sugars, dairy etc or the yeast problems kick in badly.

The brand I use is UK only, but it comes in a frozen 500g sausage that is meat, bone & offal correctly portioned. So easy. And it is definitely helping, although can still be trial and error with the proteins.

His eyes are watering just now, but I'm sure it's his dust mite problem with the heating coming on more and more. I'm trying him on cetirizine to see if that helps.

I noticed you are from Ontario- I saw one local bulldog breeder was reselling frozen raw dog food from K9 Kitchens- so they might be a good choice. I haven't switched my dog over to raw dog food so I don't know which brands are best. You can request a free sample Contact Us . Let us know what food you go with !!!
