Hi Guys I have heard a lot of good things about coconut oil and have ordered some for Buddy :)

Does anyone know how much I should give him and how often ? he is 10 months and 13.6 kilo so 29lb

Any advice be good! I have also seen mention of coconut milk?

Thanks :)

Coconut oil is the best! My little lady loves it and i mix it in her food sometimes instead of pumpkin. You should start off with small bits to introduce him to it. i started with a quarter teaspoon mixed in her meal a day and gradually increased it when i noticed no reaction to it. So now, she might get a full teaspon through out the day. i haven't gone past that yet. She is very young and underweight 4 months and only 7.2 pounds so am very careful with how much i give her. She had had bout of illnesses and diarrhea lately. i also rub her down with it after a bath to keep the lushness of her coat. She loves eating so much that if i left the jar next to her she wiil eat it all!

okay thanks for that so edible and good for fur !
bless her yours is tiny girl and mines the opposite 29lb big boy lol but they are all perfect :)

Yes they all are! I am trying to beef mine up lol. But with the recent diarrhea it seems we keep going to square one. I've had her for two months and in that time she's had Parvo; Giarda; other parasite; heart murmur; aspiration pneumonia and now the diarrhea from the nylabone. It seems it'll never end. but she's a fighter! I hope she gets to be a healthy weight soon.

Most days I put salmon oil on top of my dog's kibble but 2 days a week I put coconut oil on top instead. They love it! I haven't tried rubbing it into their coats, I'll try that the next time I bathe them.

Salmon oil and pumpkin haven't tried either with Buddy yet so thanks for ideas guys ! :)

Is the pumpkin raw or tinned?

I use the canned pure pumpkin, but if you can get raw and steam it yourself to puree... that is probably even better

I give Cheli a teaspoon every other day. My Bulldog, Lambeau get a tablespoon every other day and I rub it on his coat as he has the beginnings of seasonal alopicia

Dexter loooooves coconut oil! I've also rubbed some on his coat, but he decided to rub it all over the sofa and carpet so I didn't do that again! :)

I haven't tried salmon oil either. He eats salmon food and I'm not sure I can handle any more fish breath!

Literally what Titan did... Are they the same?! LOL lucky they're so cute!

I just feed coconut oil. I fridge mine so it's nice and chilly in their food on hot days. They go insane...

That's what I'm afraid of if I put it on Wally.

I feed fish to my dogs as well and the yes the salmon oil gives their breath an extra zing when they come at me for kisses. I've learned to live with it. :D

I have to share... some of you may know I also have a hairless cat (sphynx). Many sphynx people are HUGE proponents of coconut oil... one of the uses for it with them, and I do this to Luigi, is:

Prior to a bath, use a very generous amount of coconut oil on their skin and give them a good massage. It always makes me laugh because he looks like a thanksgiving turkey about to go in the oven.... but it helps to condition the skin and loosen any dirt and grime. Then shampoo as usual. His skin always feels so supple and hydrated after and he's squeaky clean and without dry skin.

This has me thinking now, I'm gonna give Rico the good old coconut oil pre bath rub down today after our Frenchie Meetup at the park.

Here's a pic of Luigi after his bath all cozy under his blankets, roasting on his heating pad at 100° until his pop up thermometer says he's cooked.... Hahahahahaha

He looks so content!! I don't know if my dogs will sit while I massage coconut oil all over them but I will give it a try the next time they are due for a bath.

Just curious. I've heard many good things about salmon oil. How much salmon oil do you give (I have a puppy)? Can you just pick this up at a local GNC? Or can you recommend a brand name?

My Frenchie girl always has a super dry nose. I've tried many things over the years (she's almost 8 now!), but nothing seems to work. I was really hopeful about coconut oil, but she just licks it all off her nose. I keep meaning to add it to my pups' food, but it hasn't happened yet...

I buy it at my local pet store. I have bought different brands, it depends on what store I go to, but I did find a link for a brand I recently bought: Grizzly Salmon Oil | Grizzly Pet Products

I give my Boston Terrier half a pump of oil and my Frenchie (he's 4) a full pump. For a puppy I would give just a little bit to see how he reacts to it.

Wally gets a dry nose from time to time and I find the snout soother from this company works like a charm: https://naturaldogcompany.com/shop/
