Hi there I'm just wondering if anyone else has a frenchie with a wirey coat? My bully boy did have soft fur but at almost 5 months old he has a line of really wirey fur down his back, it starts just behind his shoulders and it's almost like it has a curl to it, the further down his back it goes, the rougher the fur gets. I'm pretty sure it's not down to his diet and I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed a similar thing. This being my first frenchie I'm not sure if it's normal for it to be like it, most other frenchies I've come across seem to have soft smooth fur. Any input would help and many thanks in advance.

Banksy has a rougher coat. It's still soft in some parts but not as soft as I have seen... aiko is smoother and so is my friends frenchie. They're all different I suppose

I think these are genetic variations. Luce has the same.. his fur is a bit curly towards his lower back.. Never thought of this as something strange.

Dexter is really wirey down his hackles, but the rest of him is pretty soft. I've heard the various colours can all feel different too. It's interesting!

Wally is the same. More wirey at the back of his neck and shoulders.

Thankyou all for your replies, I thought it might be to do with his colour but just wasn't sure and with this being my first (but not last) frenchie I thought I would ask as I'm sure most of you have much more experience with the breed than me so thank you again :)

Turbo has exactly what you're describing. His fur is really soft, but around 5-6 mo old, he developed a strip of fur down his back that's a little rougher and slightly wavey.

Mandoo's fur is not as soft, but she does not have the strip down her back.

I have noticed that the brindles will have a stiffer coat and not as soft as a fawn or light fawn. Plus I have noticed that the light fawns seem to shed more than the fawns or brindles do.
