Hi all,

So my Nellie has an an ongoing problem with regurgitating and spitting up several times a day. It is not consistent but sometimes it'll happen 2-3 days in a row and other times just once a week. it is often white/peachy colour with foam and some food particles in it. I am thinking its because she eats her food too fast sometimes. I mean she will devour it in a minute sometimes. She is on a raw diet (Big Country Raw) Then when she plays too much at times too it happens. Sometimes it can be random and not linked to a meal she just had. I don't know if i should be worried or if this is normal for frenchies. While she was sick and in the hospital for twoo weeks (from 9 - 11 weeks) she was regurgitating a lot and ended up having aspiration pneumonia. It seems to have never stopped really. i think its regurgitation and not vomiting because she doesn't retch or seem in pain. two weeks ago when she had the vomiting problem i knew that was different. With this, it just comes out while she's sitting or running around and she stops for a second and then moves on. Other times she spits up in her mouth and disgustingly eats it up again!!

Could this be linked to her being squished faced? She also snores ALOT!! and breathes very heavy when we go for walks (30 mins). She is 20 weeks old now and seems to be putting on a bit of weight now. The last time i weighed her she was 9lbs and that was about two weeks ago. Has anyone had any experience with regurgitating. What are some things i can do with her feeding? her feeding bowl is slightly elevated but perhaps a higher one? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Looks like she gagged herself with her elongated soft palate. You may wish double check with the vet and discuss the various available options. Nothing too serious, not life threatening.

Their puke is ranges whitish to yellowish foam. The yellowish foam is the bile (usually they are too hungry), they would puke it out as it kinda irritates their stomach.

I also think it sounds like a palate may be too long.... have her checked at the next vet visit, but most vets will not do the procedure until the pup is closer to 8-12 months unless it is critical.

I have to agree on the soft palate...but the only thing I will say is that when I had Ellie on the Honest Kitchen food, she (who doesn't have a palate issue) was having some spitting up episodes from not digesting it fully. I was so worried until I took her off it and noticed that it stopped! Maybe there's something in the protein that Nellie is not digesting all the way?

So my current vet seems to think it's because she's on a raw diet that this is happening. He also thinks she might have a problem with her esophagus. She was gagging and spitting up before she went on the raw diet. He told me to stop the raw and feed her ID wet food and see what happens. Well she's been on the ID since yesterday and still gagging! Plus now she poop has turned into pools of jello like stuff! And it stinks!!! Obviously that canned wet food crap is not making things better. So I have to get on funding another vet. He got pissed that I took her to another vet when he was on vacation two weeks ago when the crazy vomiting started. He described her as my "problem child" and said I just got a sick dog. Which is not helping my problem so am pissed!

I agree it could possibly be something in the raw food that's not agreeing with her so I'll switch to a different brand that we have here called rawco and they have a mix that's meant for pups with sensitive stomachs and GI issues. I just want to know what the issue is and get it fixed. Thanks for everyone's comments am trying to get her an appointment at the animal clinic here in downtown Toronto. One of the doctors there is renowned for treating frenchies especially.

 what a crappy vet! Glad you are looking for a new one.... have you tried to give some Pepcid before meals? Maybe, tab a tablet to see if it helps?

I just tried some pepcid right now before her lunch to see if it'll help. I hope i can get an appointment with the new vet

Hope you find a good vet who knows Frenchies. I agree, it sounds like an elongated palate.

Have you tried spacing out her feeding's ? Give her 1/3 of meal every 10 minutes or so ? Also you can get elevated dog bowls and feed her out of that. It will slow down her rate of eating and help her digestion.

I have tried the elevated feeding and spacing out her dinner because with my schedule, I cannot space out her other two meals unfortunately. The vomiting is still persistent and now am getting concerned. It happens at least 3-4 times a day. She was at daycare yesterday and when I picked her up they told me she threw everything she ate in the morning.

I have also tried hand feeding her while she's in a sit position with her knock up and elongated. Doesn't seem to help either. She also seems to vomit very early in the morning when her stomach would be pretty much empty because she would have last eaten at 6:30pm the evening before. And it's always undigested food. I have called and left a message for the new vet and no response yet. Wish me luck

Awwww good luck! I hope it all works out! I don't know anything about the elongated palette, but I do know how concerning anything "off" can be and I feel for you!

I hope you can keep her raw, (I agree bullymama that sounds wrong...lol) after all this works out—because I know that we both struggle with picky eaters!

Wishing you luck!

Thanks all! I have managed to get an appointment with the recommended frenchie animal clinic on Friday. It seems only two of the doctors there are frenchie experts and they are not taking on new patients but I'm guessing the other doctors will be just fine too. Ill keep you all posted

Sounds like there are some horrible vets where you live! Plus... You'd think the "Frenchie experts" would hear your case & want to help you out, too. Id be so frustrated!

I hope this clinic can help you out! Good luck & keep us posted!

Just an update that the gagging has reduced drastically although she still throws up in her mouth every so often. the only thing that has changed is that i used to give her benadryl every morning to help with her allergies and i stopped that. Could it have added to the whole problem?? I wouldn't think so. We will see what the vet says tomorrow

Could be acid reflux being triggered by the meds?

So I just came back from the new vet clinic. They are really nice and professional. The vet I saw was detailed and thorough but basically told me that they'll have to refer her to an internal medicine specialist because they think it might be anatomical issues with her upper GI tract. So it could be an elongated palate, megaesophagus and stenoic something and a bunch of other things. She basically said I should hug my pet insurance because I would really need it until they figure out what the issue is.

This place she referred me to is apparently well known. So I'll give them a call figure out when they can see her. I love her to death but I see $$$ flying out the door! I just hope she's ok. This vet is the third vet that confirmed she also has a lower grade heart murmur. She is 5 months now and should be spayed at 6 months but she advised that it's best to figure out what's wrong with her before having to put her under anesthesia

Did they say the level of murmur (usually is 1-4)? Agree no surgery till things are identified.

Please keep us posted and we'll sending lots of positive thoughts

Thanks! They said a grade 1/2 murmur. The vet said it's possible she will out grow it. So am hoping so. I'll keep you all posted when we go to the internal medicine specialist.

Yes, that low of a grade does give a higher chance she will out grow it
