Hello to everyone.... I am a new french bulldog owner. My Otis is 4 months old and is the apple of my eye. We have had him since he was 11 wks. I feel like I have a million questions daily regarding him. I will not throw them all at everyone at once... lol But first can anyone tell me if they give there frenchies fruit or veggies?? Until now Otis only gets his Royal Canin puppy food. He does get treats such as a small milk bone. I do not want to start getting him wanting human food, but his daddy (who loves to spoil him) gave him a small taste of an Apple today. He ABSOLUTELY loved it and wanted more. It was like watching a child get a lollipop for the first time... Does anyone give fruits and veggies if so types and amounts. Thank you all......

Much of what is considered "human food" is way better for your pup than the traditional dog food that most people feed their babies. I've heard bad things about both Royal Canin and Milk Bone brands, but haven't looked into them personally. As far as feeding fruit goes, I have certainly fed Gus strawberries, blueberries, apple, carrots, broccoli, canned pumpkin, and banana. He loves them all. :)

Welcome to the forum. Hope to see some pics of your baby. :)

Welcome! Let’s see some pictures!

Yes, RC is not a great brand nor is Milkbone. Dogfoodadvisor.com is a good resource to look at different brands of food and get their ratings.

But yes, I give my guys a little fruit and veggies here and there. Basically whenever I’m cooking and chopping g up something they can eat, I’ll give some.

RC and Milkbone are nit good foods-- lots of fillers (crap) in them.

Welcome and congrats on your pup. We give ours Apple, banana, blueberries, broccoli, and greenbeans. They love them, just give in moderation. Royal Canin isn't that good of a food. We feed FROMM foods and have always pup our pups in the FROMM puppy food in the pink bag. A good treat is "Fruitables" all natural and made in the USA. They love them. In the summer time you can also make a good treat which is easy to make, just get 1/2 peanut butter, and 1/2 plain yogurt (goats milk yogurt is best" mix it up, and then put little bit size pieces on a cookie sheet lines with wax paper and then freeze them. Once frozen, you can take them off the paper and then put in a zip lock bag and keep frozen. It's a nice treat for them .

Thank you so much for the advice.. What brand food do you prefer?

Are you wanting to feed kibble or raw? Jax my Frenchie gets frozen raw patties. Louie, my bulldog gets Fromm kibble in the morning and then The Honest Kitchen at night which is a dehydrated raw.

If you are wanting to feed strictly kibble, some of the better brands are Fromm, Orijen, Acana, Zignature, Nature's Variety. Dogfoodadvisor.com is a good resource to look at it for brand ratings.

Also, you do not need to feed puppy specific kibble. A lot of brands have "all life stages" formulas.

Thank you so much for the advice. I want to stick with kibble.

One thing I forgot to add...I don't know if it's with all of the all life stages brands but I know with some of them, their formulas are rotational which means you can switch between different flavors without needing to do a transition.
