My senior Frenchie has been diagnosed with IBD and lymphangiectasia, both which cause chronic diarrhea. He's been prescribed a steroid and a hydrolized protein diet, which we've ben following. It seemed to work for a couple of weeks, but he is currently suffering from diarrhea again. Has anyone had experience with this that they could share with me? Thanks!

So sorry you haven’t had any responses…. dracosmommy is going through a similar situation

I'm so sorry while my baby isn't going through the exact same thing (he is a 7-month-old puppy with no diagnosis yet), I did notice that one of the medicines he was getting was causing him diarrhea, in our case, I don't think we will necessarily need that medicine unless he starts vomiting again, it might be that your Frenchie needs a medicine changed if he is getting other ones along with the steroids. I give my dog Draco pumpkin and probiotics to firm up his stools but honestly, with his GI issues, it doesn't always work. But those may be worth a try.

Our senior Boston terrier, Bean, was diagnosed with IBD and lymphangectasia which was confirmed through an abdominal laparotomy. We struggled with his diet and tried everything. He was having poor side effects from prednisone and other meds and I wanted desparately to get him off the meds if I could. I consulted an integrative vet who did food allergy testing. We put him on NomNomNow home delivered food and used their GI probiotic supplement. This worked wonders for us. I was able to wean him off his meds completely and keep the diarrhea away for a year before he passed away shortly after Christmas. It was a lot of trial and error for us. I tried a kangaroo diet, hydrolyized protein, homecooked tilapia and sweet potatoes, alligator diet, gave him B12 injections, on and on. It's a tough disease. I wish you the best. I'd be happy to try to answer any questions you have. Melanie

Hi there. Our 9 year Frenchie has had chronic diarrhea since Thanksgiving. They think it is IBD, but no one is 100% sure. It would require surgery to do the biopsies and we wanted to try anything else before that. We tried the Purina HA and unfortunately it hasn't helped. He's been on 5 mg of pred for 2 months and that hasn't made a difference either. The only thing that has been helpful is 2 tablespoons a day of Metamucil. The only problem is he can tell when it's in his food and won't eat it. I've tried several methods, but we can't get it in him. One vet suggested Endosorb and I haven't noticed any changes.

Melanie, Did you use end up using NomNomNow home delivered food and their GI probiotic supplement exclusively? Any suggestions you have would be great. Thanks so much!

Jake is 8 years old and has had lymphangiectasia for about a year. He became lethargic and started losing weight. His protein levels were very low. We initially made dietary changes and when that didn't help, his vet did an intestinal biopsy to reach his diagnosis. He is currently on a high protein, low fat diet of lean pork, white rice and green beans and is doing great. We also give him a powder supplement called "Balance It". He is also on cyclosporine.
Have you had his protein levels checked recently?

Our Frenchie, Barclay, has had low albumin and protein. The pred helped raise the albumin, but didn't help the diarrhea. Do you cook his diet yourself? I've tried all kinds of diets, but no luck. The next step is cyclosporine. How is Jake doing on that?

There was definitely very soft stools at first on the cyclosporine but I just adjusted the recipe and gave him more white rice and it has been fine. My vet also recommended keeping it in the freezer to limit stomach upset.
