So my parents have a rescue cocker Spaniel, he's about 5 years old and VERY laid back.. Quiet, chilled and doesn't really like to play, just prefers to be petted (Basically the opposite of my Frenchie pup!!!) Anyway.. they look after my Frenchie a few days a week while I work and they've always been kept separate due to Trixie not having all of her jabs, etc. Now she's had all of her jabs we are trying to introduce them slowly.. But Trixie just jumps all over him!! He walks into the room and sits down to be petted, and she just gets SOOOOOO excited and dives at him, nipping his ears, wanting to play. He was abused before my parents resuced him (4 years ago) so we're not too sure what's happened before they had him but he's always been very quiet and calm so he definately doesn't deserve to be tortured by Trixie now hahaha!! He doesn't bark or growl at her when she's jumping on him, he just kind of cowers away :( I'm sure he'll come round to playing with her eventually but how do I get her to calm down a bit so he's not overwhelmed??? Thanks in advance!! :)

That's the Frenchie way!!!!!!!!! My dogs annoy other dogs so badly.... I have never really found a way to make them not. Its just their play style.

The one thing that I see helping is just in time when she is used to the other dog the novelty will wear off and she will eventually learn the other dog is just not into playing rough

Once they get used to each other over time, things should calm down. The puppy will eventually understand that the dog is not interested in playing. I just went through this myself with Stella and a lab/golden puppy that she wanted nothing to do with. I would just make sure and give the cocker spaniel a break and put your puppy in a crate or xpen from time to time.

Story of my life! I get so sad when we go to the dog park because most dogs don't like playing with nellie because she is just too much and all over the place. its the frenchie way. Plus as a puppy they'll be annoying to older dogs because of too much energy. At least the cocker is not snapping at trixie! Nellie returns from daycar with scraps sometimes :(

That definitely is the Frenchie way! They are rough players, lol. As long as the Spaniel isn't getting aggressive with Trixie, they will probably get used to each other over time.

Frenchie play is unlike any other. Large dogs will scatter when they see Ella coming, which is surprising to me given that she's tiny. They just have a different way of doing things.

hahaah yup so true. Frenchies are the kind of dogs you have to explain to your friends before they meet them. LOL

So very true, which is why Cheli's nick-name is 'The Gnat' ... he just does not stop or go away no matter how much the other dog is annoyed or shows no interest... relentless

Frenchie pups are pretty rough and excited. I would wait until your pup gets a little older and slows down some, just not to make the older dog uncomfortable. He seems pretty set in his ways and since he was abused when he was younger, he may never like to play. I wouldn't push it.

So true!!

Wally just met a bunch of family over the weekend for the first time and before I let go of his leash I warned everyone to brace themselves. Sure enough, he bowled over 2 people. :D
