Do you enjoy getting out and about in the neighborhood? So does Keyma! Do you think that your office needs a happy-go-lucky social butterfly of a Frenchie to break the monotony? So does Keyma! Do you like to chase squirrels, leaves, birds, and especially lizards? What a coincidence -- so does Keyma!
Keyma is an athletic, playful, snuggly girl who loves her people and gets along well with other dogs. She was surrendered to FBRN because her previous owner couldn't keep up with the vet visits and daily care required to keep her skin healthy, and Keyma had developed a skin infection in her facial folds. It's a fact of life -- French bulldogs are prone to allergies. The thing is, we know that a good dermatologist, daily maintenance, and a little allergy know-how can go a long way. Foster Mom has switched Keyma to a raw rabbit diet, gives her weekly medicated baths, and wipes her facial folds daily. If it looks like a rash is starting to flare up, a dab of antibiotic ointment does the trick. A new allergy drug, APOQUEL®, shows great promise, and it may be the magic bullet for Keyma when it becomes more widely available. For more tips on keeping allergy dogs comfortable, check out the "Allergy remedies -- home treatments to help your itchy frog" article on our website.
Keyma will be happy in any type of home, as long as she receives plenty of belly rubs and exercise. She is housetrained, but she prefers not to be crated unless it is absolutely necessary. She even obeys basic commands if provided with reinforcement! She would love to have a nice back yard or even a patio to play in, but an apartment would be fine. A stay-at-home person or someone who could take her to the office every day would be a dream come true for this people-oriented little girl. An experienced Frenchie person, and/or someone who is well versed in allergy care, would be ideal. Be sure to tell us about your experience in your application. She loves children of all ages, but of course she should be supervised around very small kiddos just in case she accidentally knocks one down. Any children in the home should be responsible enough to not leave the front door open because in addition to being adorable, Miss Keyma is fast. Very fast. In fact, her athleticism, coupled with a strong prey drive, makes it very important for Keyma to be either in a securely fenced yard or leashed whenever she is outside. Think smush-faced whippet.
Other dogs in the home are just fine with Keyma. Big, small, male, female -- she likes them all. She may bark when she spots a strange dog, but after introductions, she is ready to play. She also enjoys playing with toys and knit scarves. If you give Keyma a knit scarf, she will bark at it and drag it around the house!
