Hi all Frenchie Fans

On Friday, we got our wonderful little 8 week Frenchie, Frank.

He has been great so far - sleeping well, settled in his crate, peeing and pooping on his pee pads as he should.

We have been reading Ian Dunbar's books and he is a big advocate of Kong's from day one. He says to give all food to a puppy in a Kong so they learn to chew the right thing, are occupied and have to work for their food.

We have a XS Puppy Kong for Frank, but he is not all that interested. He liked to lick it, but wont chew.

What experiences have you guys had? Is 8 weeks to early for a little Frenchie?

Thanks

I used the puppy teething keys which worked well... as for knowing what to chew, i used the redirect and training them on what is not theirs (firm no or a leave it command). I have the Kong (the one you can stuff) and unless there is food or a treat in them, my guys have no interest in them but the love the keys

My guy had no interest in Kongs or the teething keys. They are all different with what they like and it might take some trial and error.

Took our boy a couple months before he was interested in kongs. It's also only when I freeze yogurt in it. He didn't care if I put peanut butter or even chicken.

The slow feeder bowls worked for us, so he wasn't able to gulp his food. Also, a paper plate keeps the kibble flat, so it's harder to gulp.

Good luck!

Welcome! Frank is a very handsome pup!

Both my dogs never cared for their Kong. They did love teething keys though and neither of them have a chewing issue.

Welcome to you and Frank. What a cutie pie! Mine liked the teething keys a lot, but were not interested in the kongs. They liked nylabones too.

Frank is a cutie...welcome! I tried the stuffing a Kong for Jax when he was younger and he would go after it for a couple of minutes and then be done with it. While at my brother's house a few weeks ago, they stuffed a Kong with peanut butter for their dog and stuffed one for Jax. Jax lost interest after a couple of minutes. Like others have said, each dog is different and you will you just have to find something that will work for Frank.

Thanks guys. I think i will try the kong again in a couple of weeks. I do like the idea of him having to work for his food.

We always give our young pups a Nylabone to chew on, and they like them, we also have some Kong toys, but the Nylabones are their favorites.

Kevin has been eating her meals from her Kong and she loves it. I also smear just a tiny bit of peanut butter on it for her.
