Hey all - so Ripley had a booster check up today and the vet was doing some hip rotations as part of the checkup. She mentioned she felt light clicking in both hips (didn't feel it previous visits). She didn't seem super concerned but did ask if she seemed uncomfortable or if she could jump up on the low couch in the office we were in. I told her we didn't know about the jumping because we don't really encourage it. She mentioned bunny hopping which she does upstairs but I haven't noticed one way or another if she did it while playing. She said she would just follow up on it at the next visit and that it could just be that she doesn't yet have a lot of muscle tone yet. I know they can develop hip issues but I guess I just hoped I wouldn't already be thinking about it. Anyone have any words of advice or encouragement? After finding out she was deaf I was hoping for a stress free period with her. 😕

Because she's still young it might be nothing but definitely worth following up on. davidh might have insight.

Thanks! I'll definitely keep an eye on it. She truly doesn't appear uncomfortable though she does have a bit of sway to her walk. Not sure if that's just bully style walking or something else. Again, just spiraling with worst case scenarios as I am one to do lol.

On that note - what's everyone's go to supplement to promote healthy hips? Any favorite?

When they are really young, they sometimes go through "growing pains" so hopefully that is all it is.

I have never used any joint supplements but others may chime in.

Ya I would just keep an eye on her. She is a growing puppy and a lot can change.
Not sure I would give a supplement. If you are feeding a high quality food, she should be getting all the vitamins and nutrients she needs.

I agree with everyone else. She is growing and tings move. Just keep an eye on it, and if it gets worse, then an X-ray is in order to rule out any problems. I wouldn't do it just yet though. As long as you are giving her a good quality food, I wouldn't give any supplements. Also be careful of the stairs especially coming down them. The growth plates in her joints are not hard yet, and excessive jumping, especially jumping down can cause damage to the joints. The plates do not fully harden until around a year of age.
